The VP Operations - Americas is responsible for providing leadership, directing strategy, and overseeing execution and implementation on all aspects of Supply Chain operations for the region.  This position will play a critical role in scaling Fluence SC and manufacturing capabilities, achieving operational excellence, reducing costs, and enhancing customer satisfaction through supply chain as a competitive advantage.  

Works with cross-functional partners in commercial, manufacturing, customer service, purchasing and other functions to ensure safe and reliable supply of products to customers.  Develop and lead implementation of Supply Chain strategies for the business in partnership with Regional & Functional leadership. 

This person will report directly to the SVP, Chief Supply Chain and Manufacturing Officer and will jointly support the SVP & Regional President, Americas for the regional localization strategy and execution.  This person will be responsible for the design and implementation of strategy for the direct sourcing for Fluence, Americas in alignment with the global category strategy, product management strategy and business strategy focusing on TCO and ESG and to maximize top and bottom line performance for the operations. 

This role is also expected to standardize & streamline processes as we continue to grow the business, mature our processes to best in class.

As the Vice President of Supply Chain Operations in Americas, you will:

  • Effectively implement and scale regional sourcing and manufacturing strategies and capabilities to achieve our near- and long-term business strategies.
  • Collaborate with Business Leadership to define supply chain services and capabilities that enable current and long-term business requirements. 
  • Develop and implement multi-year strategic supply chain plans that enables forecasted customer (internal and external) demand. 
  • Lead business decisions as a key stakeholder to optimize supply chain network. Ensure accountability for supplier performance including development and participation in contract negotiations. 
  • Identify structure and talent profile for Americas to effectively leverage regional talent for all aspects of Supply Chain and effectively execute hiring.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to supply chain teams supporting the business. Create visibility of business needs and enhance line of sight to the customer. 
  • Own process to set and manage regional performance based on standardized KPIs in the areas of above the line financial performance, manufacturing processes, materials, logistics, safety, quality etc. 
  • Work with cross-functional partners to develop and implement Continuous Improvement opportunities to enhance business performance in alignment with business strategy. 
  • Facilitate or participate in Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) meetings. Assure that S&OP forecasts and metrics are aligned with both current and long-term business strategy. 
  • Identifies strategic partners and delivers improved products and lower costs to the organization through supplier management, value capture, manufacturing cycle time optimization and total cost principles.
  • Coaches, mentors, and develops all facets of the direct regional Supply Chain team and extended stakeholder team.  Builds a diverse, high performing team and associated organization.
  • Builds and leverages relationships and networks across the organization. Uses personal influence skills rather than position power to persuade others and gain support.
  • Leads the annual strategic planning for the Americas Supply Chain function to ensure alignment with business objectives for growth, profitability and ensuring Americas Supply Chain delivers increasing value through competitive advantage.
  • Supply Chain Operations at Fluence:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive supply chain strategy aligned with the company's overall goals and objectives.
  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and motivate a diverse team of supply chain professionals, including procurement, production, inventory management, logistics, and distribution.
  • Cost Optimization: Identify opportunities to reduce operating costs, enhance efficiency, and improve profitability within the supply chain.
  • Supplier Management: Manage supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and ensure the quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of the supply chain network.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee inventory control strategies to minimize carrying costs while ensuring product availability.
  • Demand Planning: Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to forecast demand accurately and ensure appropriate inventory levels.
  • Production Planning: Develop and execute production plans to meet demand while optimizing resource utilization.
  • Logistics and Distribution: Optimize transportation, warehousing, and distribution processes to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of products to customers.
  • Technology Integration: Implement and leverage supply chain technologies and systems to enhance visibility, efficiency, and decision-making.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain quality control measures and compliance standards within the supply chain.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, including disruptions, shortages, and geopolitical factors.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive a culture of continuous improvement within the supply chain by implementing Lean and Six Sigma principles and other best practices.
  • Contract Management: Defining appropriate level of contracting required per supplier spend & criticality. Works with contracts managers to execute the required contracts to achieve an optimum level of contract coverage.
  • Business & Stakeholder alignment: Act as a Sourcing business partner and extended team of the engineering and business leaders to enable their teams to achieve the highest performance levels and ensuring the alignment of communication, stakeholder engagement, participation and overall internal customer satisfaction.
  • Benchmarking: Reviewing respective industry best practices, cost & quality benchmarking, technology & innovation benchmarking
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance to company guidelines, procurement policies and procedures. Drives regional ESG efforts consistent with corporate strategy and local compliance.
  • Financial Planning: Partnering with the function heads to support finalizing and managing budgets, reporting the actual vs. planned, forecast vs. budget etc. Also, working with finance to forecast the cashflow for the assigned category.
  • Other reporting requirement: S2C related KPIs, Supplier Performance KPIs, Cost Savings, Cost avoidance, On time delivery, Managed vs. non managed spend, ESG factors, Risk scoring.
  • Financial Reporting: Provide regular financial reports and KPIs to senior management, highlighting supply chain performance and areas for improvement.
  • What will you bring to Fluence?

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, supply chain management, business, or a related field; Master’s Degree or Post graduation diploma in Operations, Supply Chain or Business is preferred 
  • Preferred experience: 10~15 Years total with min 5 years in sourcing direct materials
  • Professional certificate in Supply Chain is preferred: CPSM, CPSD, CPIM, CSCP, CLTS or CIPS level/s.
  • Proven experience in senior supply chain leadership roles at the Director or VP level, with a strong track record of success.
  • In-depth knowledge of operations, supply chain management principles, logistics, procurement, and production.
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and team management skills.
  • Strategic thinker with a focus on achieving business objectives.
  • Good exposure suppliers in the following categories – Mechanical Fabrication, Electro-mechanical assembly & boxes, Electrical assembly, inverters; Lithium-Ion cells, batteries & modules; HVAC, Chillers, tele communication racks, servers, Fire panels
  • Good understanding of the import duty structures FTA rules etc.
  • Good understanding of the Trade Compliance & Control, SOX compliance, Conflict minerals
  • Understanding & experience in Zero based costing, TCO analysis 
  • Well versed & working experience with ERP (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, etc.)
  • Well versed & working experience with S2C, SRM tools/business systems (Ariba, Coupa, SRM)
  • Excellent communication (Verbal & written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Project Management Skills (PMI certification is an added advantage)
  • Excellent Presentation skills
  • Analytical & problem-solving skills, Agile and adaptable.
  • Exposure to Spend Analytics and opportunity assessment.
  • Good Understanding of Sourcing & Procurement Domain.
  • Must be self-driven, organized, planning skills and be able to work in a fast-paced team environment.
