Responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for Thermal Commodity performance & delivery, leading both virtual and physical commodity validation from concept through to production.  
  • Responsible for translating system level requirements into Functional & Performance requirements at commodity level.
  • Support delivery of thermal system architectures, through identification, evaluation and implementation of commodity and component technical innovations.
  • Creation and management of all Failure Mode Avoidance Documentation, inc. Boundary Diagrams, P-Diagrams & DFMEA’s.  
  • Creation and management of commodity level DVPs.
  • Develop commodity level thermal test procedures. 
  • Lead commodity level thermal testing activities.
  • Own the creation of instrumentation lists for component level tests. 
  • Commodity build & testing support, both at ARVL and external test facilities as and when required.
  • Lead the writing of Component Specifications.
  • Support the creation of the Thermal Management System (TMS) control logic and lead the associated component level software to ensure vehicle thermal and energy efficiency requirements are met. 
  • Lead X-functional interface management, with support from design engineers, with a focus on hardware interfaces and RBF requirements.  
  • Be the lead technical contact for commercial conversations with external and internal suppliers to ensure lowest overall commodity cost.
  • Lead all engineering related topics in accordance with ARVL SQA processes from prototype through to mass production.  
  • Expertise:

  • Degree in Engineering or other relevant Science based discipline
  • Automotive engineering expertise in thermal systems for EV’s, including component level design, distribution systems for both glycol & refrigerant, HVAC and HV battery thermal management.
  • Knowledge of component level safety concepts & requirements, plus related standards such as IS026262
  • Understanding of commercial business factors. 
  • Proven ability for technical leadership of less experienced engineers.
  • CAD expert, NX preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with clear and concise communication. 
  • Strong supplier and issue management, with a track record of delivering under tight deadlines. 
  • Proven ability to escalate issues or tasks when appropriate in a way which can be understood by both technical and non-technical leadership team.   
  • Methodical approach to issue investigation and resolution.  
  • Flexible and agile with their approach to both work and other team members, with the ability to manage multiple conflicting requirements effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Competent user of Jira software with experience of operating in an agile development framework.   
  • FEA / 1D CAE / CFD experience would be a bonus.
