ICON is looking for a Test Automation Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of Product Test automation infrastructure. You will architect, develop, and implement automation strategies to support ICON’s ambitious goals. The product test team focuses primarily on the acceptance, qualification and R&D test campaigns of the Vulcan and Magma 3D printing systems, and the automation engineer will primarily focus on test-specific software architecture and data analytics. This role is based at ICON’s Austin, TX location and will report to Sr. Manager - Product Test. Additionally, travel to ICON’s job sites to support troubleshooting and repair may be required. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and develop data analytics strategies to ingest, analyze, and report system level acceptance criteria during the commissioning and R&D phases of test campaigns. 
  • Work with mechanical and electrical engineering teams to pinpoint opportunities for additional data collection in support of detailed system performance analysis. 
  • Work with controls and software teams to automate test operations and minimize human touch points during recurring test campaigns. 
  • Make recommendations for hardware changes that support automated operations, and architect hardware rollouts along with the mechanical hardware and controls teams. 
  • Design and implement data acquisition systems, electrical and controls programming, and perform FMEAs on systems to predict future performance. 
  • Develop and implement automated test tools with data visualization, automated test reporting using SQL Python, or other analytics tools. 
  • Operate test stands as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering
  • Minimum 4+ years experience in a related field of mechanical engineering, mechatronics, fluid systems, or structural systems. 
  • Experience working with and reading P&IDs and other system process diagrams. 
  • Exposure to a wide variety of test systems, production machinery, industrial sensors, and equipment (pogo-pins, pressure transducers, temperature controllers, current meters, etc.)
  • Experience with DAQ systems, sensors, accelerometers (Dewesoft, Scope)
  • Knowledge of data pipelining, data warehousing, and data analytics (Python, SQL)
  • Experience automating processes and systems: FANUC, Beckhoff PLCs, FARO, Palantir Foundry, Twincat

 

Desired

  • PLC logic and programming with Structured Text (Twincat/Scope)
  • Versed in SolidWorks

 

REQUIRED  EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSES:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering
  • Masters Degree in a related field is a plus. 

 

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Must be prepared to work, in part, in extreme environments: temps > 100 degrees or below freezing, sun, rain, mud, lack of electricity, etc.  We get dirty.
