About the company:
Our mission
At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The VX4, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take-off and landing), 'zero emissions' aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky.
We won't realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed, instead, we want to 'redefine' aerospace best practices.
We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals of having the VX4 in service by 2030.
What to expect
As a Technical Program Manager, you will join a growing team of passionate individuals within our Engineering Delivery team, working across critical systems and driving programs with a particular focus on electrical motor, battery, and powertrain development.
A typical day could range from leading transformation and business-improvement engineering programs end-to-end, to identifying ways to accelerate progress by removing friction and blockers, to acting as the conduit between Engineering Delivery and the Program Management Office.
What you'll do
Drive progress by identifying opportunities to go faster—streamlining decision-making, removing duplication, and eliminating unnecessary blockers or steps.
Take responsibility for leading engineering-led programmes end-to-end—from initial scoping through to delivery—especially in powertrain-related system areas.
Act as a vital conduit between Engineering Delivery and the Program Management Office—ensuring information flows, issues are escalated, and priorities stay aligned.
Help resolve obstacles, clarify ownership, and maintain accountability to ensure teams deliver on commitments and timelines.
Bring a systems-thinking approach—constantly interrogating whether processes are necessary or optimisable—and implementing better ways of working.
Apply an enterprise-wide mindset, always seeking opportunities to improve cross-functional collaboration and programme effectiveness.
Support a culture of continuous improvement, leveraging Agile and Lean principles to enhance engineering delivery.
Collaborate closely with engineering leaders, technical experts, and programme teams to turn complex system challenges into delivered outcomes.
What you'll bring
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or Project Management—or another discipline supported by strong technical aptitude.
Approximately 3–6 years post-graduate experience, ideally in fast-paced, agile technology, engineering, or R&D-led organisations.
Experience managing or supporting delivery in technical environments—particularly those involving technology, engineering, hardware, electrical systems, or powertrain development.
Strong problem-solving skills and a comfort with ambiguity, iteration, and transformation within high-growth environments.
An ability to earn trust and influence at all levels, using clear communication, collaboration, and sound judgment.
Familiarity with Agile, Lean, or other modern delivery methodologies.
A good understanding of engineering principles—you don’t need to be an engineer, but you should be confident working with engineers and technical topics.
Project management certification (e.g. PRINCE2, PMP) is beneficial, but not essential.
