As a Part-Time Test Technician (6-month contract) at Zoox, you’ll play a key role in ensuring vehicle safety and readiness while supporting software and hardware testing. You’ll execute test procedures, collect and review data, log issues using tools like JIRA, and collaborate closely with engineering teams. This role offers hands-on experience in vehicle operations and exposure to teams across Zoox, from engineering to ride operations. We’re looking for reliable, detail-oriented team players who adapt quickly to dynamic test environments.
This role is based onsite at our Transportation Research Center - California or Altamont test sites. The role requires flexibility to work across multiple shifts, which may include:
Day: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Swing: 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM
Occasional overnight or weekend hours as operational needs arise.
With flexible shifts and a part-time schedule, this role provides an opportunity for students to gain practical, real-world experience supporting cutting-edge autonomous technology.
Compensation
$30 an hour.
This is a contract position and employment for this position will be through a vendor contracted with Zoox. The hourly pay range is posted and you will be eligible for a benefits package as offered by the vendor.
In this role, you will:
Support vehicle testing and operations in both in-vehicle and out-of-vehicle rolesAssist with basic software tasks, system checks, and mission prep activitiesCollect data, analyze logs using internal tools, and document observationsContribute to feedback and defect reporting for engineering teamsSupport documentation efforts related to vehicle readiness, test results, and metricsPromote a safety-first mindset and collaborative, inclusive team cultureQualifications:
Strong communication skills and a proactive, problem-solving mindsetBasic scripting experience (e.g., Python, Bash) from coursework, projects, or personal useTeam-oriented, with a strong focus on execution and safetyComfortable with Google Suite or Microsoft Office; open to learning tools like JIRA or ConfluenceExposure to QA concepts or testing environments is a plus; adaptable in fast-paced settingsActively enrolled in a 2-year or 4-year college program pursuing a certificate or degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to work onsite in Tracy or Altamont.
