About the company:

General Matter, Inc. is an American nuclear energy company based in California that is focused on developing domestic nuclear energy solutions. The company aims to harness nuclear technology to increase national energy prosperity, reduce dependence on foreign energy sources, and support the expansion of American capabilities in the energy sector. Their work centers on making nuclear energy more accessible and practical by advancing technologies that can be developed and deployed within the United States. General Matter's mission is rooted in the belief that nuclear power represents a critical pathway toward a cleaner, more energy-independent future. By turning domestic nuclear potential into operational reality, the company positions itself at the intersection of national security, economic growth, and climate-conscious energy production. Their approach emphasizes building nuclear energy infrastructure that is homegrown rather than reliant on foreign supply chains or expertise. The company brings together leaders from nuclear engineering, technology, government, and finance, reflecting a multidisciplinary approach to solving the complex challenges of modern nuclear energy development. As a startup operating in the green and climate technology sector, General Matter represents a new wave of private investment in nuclear energy as a viable and scalable low-carbon power source for the United States.

About the company

General Matter enriches uranium.

We are designing, building, and operating the world’s lowest-cost enrichment services, here in the US.

In the process, we are restoring America’s ability to produce nuclear fuel to power AI, advanced manufacturing and critical industries our country relies on to remain competitive.

Fuel drives the cost of advanced reactor electricity production, and enrichment drives the cost of the fuel that advanced reactors consume.  Reliable, low-cost enrichment is the catalyst for the nuclear Renaissance now under way.

Our mission is to make nuclear not only the cleanest and safest source of baseload power, but also the most affordable.  We believe abundant nuclear energy will lead to a post-scarcity society.

We were incubated inside Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and are backed by over a dozen of the world's top venture capital firms.

Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production.

We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency.

Help us build a high-energy society by making the cleanest, safest form of baseload energy the most affordable.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Structural Engineer (New Graduate) with a strong interest in structural systems design for industrial and mission‑critical facilities to join our growing engineering team. You’ll collaborate with experienced engineers and designers to develop robust structural solutions for spaces similar to data centers, manufacturing plants, refineries, and other large‑scale infrastructure. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated graduate with an advanced technical background eager to help build the world’s most modern enrichment plant and contribute to high-reliability, heavy-industrial facility design.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and coordination of structural systems in BIM for industrial and critical facilities, including gravity and lateral load-resisting systems.
  • Perform structural analysis, calculations for steel and concrete elements, and foundation design under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Assist in the design of specialized industrial structures, including high-seismic bracing, equipment supports, and heavy-loading floor slabs.
  • Work on the analysis of wind, seismic, and snow loads in accordance with applicable building codes.
  • Contribute to BIM modeling using Revit and AutoCAD to integrate structural designs with mechanical and electrical disciplines.
  • Support the development of structural specifications, calculation packages, and construction drawings for large‑scale projects.
  • Participate in workflow automation and computational design using visual programming (Dynamo, Grasshopper) or coding (Python, C#).
  • Effectively communicate technical structural concepts within multidisciplinary project teams.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering or a Master’s in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis (recent graduate or upcoming).
  • Strong foundational coursework in finite element analysis (FEA), advanced steel design, reinforced concrete design, and structural dynamics.
  • Familiarity with BIM modeling software, such as Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of structural analysis software (e.g., RISA-3D, SAP2000, ETABS, or RAM Structural System).
  • Knowledge of material-specific design standards and fundamental physics-based engineering principles.
  • Interest and/or experience in AI tools for design, visual programming (Dynamo, Grasshopper), coding (Python, C#), and/or open‑source projects.
  • Internship experience at an engineering or AEC firm preferred, especially projects involving heavy industrial or high-seismic design.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and collaboratively across disciplines.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Familiarity with structural codes and standards (IBC, ASCE 7, ASCE 43, AISC 360, ACI 318).
  • Exposure to seismic design categories, vibration analysis for sensitive equipment, or blast-resistant design.
  • Experience with pre-engineered metal buildings (PEMB) or modular structural systems.
  • Understanding of industrial-specific requirements, such as crane runway design or heavy equipment anchorage.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.

Equal Opportunity Employer
