The Role:

We are looking for an outstanding stress engineer with a strong background in whole engine analysis to join our innovative team and help us shape the future of urban e-mobility.

In this position, you will have the exciting opportunity to work within the rapidly growing Stress Team as part of the Design & Aerostructures Department. You will report to the Team Lead Stress and be part of the multi-disciplinary Propulsion Integrated Project Team.

Lilium welcomes people from all over the world. We are a multinational company and happy to support our new top talents with relocation. We have helped our new hires to meet their Visa criteria and successfully settle in Munich.

Your Day to Day:

  • Central point of contact for all stress related topics for the complete Propulsion System and for all relevant stakeholders, i.e., Stress Engineers, Design Engineers, Chief Engineers and Heads of Engineering Disciplines.
  • Full responsibility of the “Whole Engine” finite element (FE) and multibody dynamics (MBD) models representing a fully equipped Propulsion Unit including CFRP/metallic mounting structure, engine, actuator, and auxiliary systems.
  • Stress and dynamic analysis (i.e., frequency response or rotor dynamics) to assess static and vibrational at Propulsion assembly level.
  • Coordination of the stress work across different Propulsion sub-systems (i.e., requesting simulation models and delivering interface loads) and to interfacing engineering disciplines like Loads, Thermal Management or System Testing.
  • Full responsibility for numerical modelling, conduction of simulations, post-processing and reporting of the results as well as model correlation with static and dynamic test data for certification purposes.
  • Define efficient modelling techniques and optimization methods for static and dynamic analysis to fulfil design criteria with respect to failure cases (e.g., fan blade off and bearing failure) and vibrational behaviour as well as derivation of sizing loads on subsystem level.
  • Review and approval of FE models, analysis data and stress reports.
  • Support the Propulsion System design by analysis throughout the entire product development process to achieve designs with exceptional performance.

Your Profile:

  • Sc. or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field is required
  • 8+ years of professional experience in static & dynamic structural analysis, with application to whole aircraft engines
  • Excellent knowledge of stress and dynamic analysis methods, including frequency response, rotor dynamics and multibody dynamics analysis
  • Proven experience with experimental modal analysis and characterisation of structural damping are beneficial
  • In-depth understanding of the loading scenarios and structural behaviour of aircraft engines and their surrounding structure
  • Extensive working experience with the commercial implicit FE code OptiStruct, the MBD solver MotionSolve and the corresponding pre- and post-processing tools HyperMesh, HyperView and MotionView
  • Target-oriented, driven workstyle with analytic problem-solving skills
  • High level of self-reliance and an autonomous target-oriented work style
