Your role and your team:

We are looking for an outstanding Stress Engineer with proven industry track record to join our innovative team and thus shape the future of urban e-mobility. You will take ownership of stress analysis of battery cells and their housings. You will analyse and correlate complete battery cell, module, and pack designs and their integration by means of analytical calculations and numerical simulations.

In this position, you will have the exciting opportunity to work within the rapidly growing Stress Team as part of the Calculation Department. You will report to the Team Lead Stress and work closely with engineers from various disciplines in the cross-functional Cell Technology Team. We use state-of-the-art systems and analysis techniques to deliver rapid results and encourage innovative thinking to achieve the best solutions.

Your Day to Day:

  • Sizing and stress analysis of aircraft structural components and their interfaces.
  • Characterize battery related materials and develop advanced material models for FEM analysis.
  • Develop state-of-the-art FE models from battery cell to battery pack level. 
  • Perform advanced numerical simulations to evaluate and enhance the understanding of cell behavior under both static and dynamic events and thermal loads.
  • Hold responsibilities for numerical modeling, analysis, post-processing and documentation of results.
  • Support analysis validation and verification activities including test support throughout the complete development cycle of the battery systems and cells.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers from Mechanical Design, Cell Technology, Manufacturing and System Testing.
  • Author and review high-quality engineering documentation. 

Your Profile:

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in structural analysis, with application to aircraft structures or energy storage structures.
  • Extensive working experience with commercial implicit FE-codes, i.e., OptiStruct, Nastran, Ansys or Abaqus/Standard, and corresponding pre- and post-processing tools is a must.
  • Basic knowledge of explicit FE codes, e.g., Radioss, LS-DYNA, is beneficial.
  • Excellent knowledge of stress and fatigue as well as structural dynamics (vibration / frequency response function) analysis techniques.
  • Strong experience with composite materials and their structural behavior, as well as adhesives and non-structural materials, e.g., foam and rubber materials.
  • Experience in battery cell modeling, from cell level to aircraft level.
  • Demonstrated experience in the calibration, validation and verification of numerical analysis methods.
  • In-depth understanding of the loading scenarios and mechanical behavior of aircraft structures throughout the entire flight envelope
  • Strong motivation to help build and shape your organization, structures and processes.
  • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment.
  • High level of self-reliance with the ability to work in a team, as well as autonomously.
  • Fluent English language skills are essential.
