ROLE SUMMARY
The Factory Apps team creates applications to support Rivian’s manufacturing processes. The end user of the applications we build ranges from the engineers on the assembly line to the operations team who acts upon the data we collect. In this role, you will be architecting, designing and developing and deploying front-end applications for Rivian's manufacturing for both the operations and engineering user personas. You are someone that exhibits 'grace under fire' with responding to pressures of speed at quality through agile discovery, development and delivery approaches. You value product-thinking, and full-stack ownership of features is what excites you. And lastly, you build for scale from the get-go and understand when and where technical debt can be accrued and paid-down. The opening can be located Remote, (US) and reports directly to a Virtual Engineering, Sr. Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build scalable, reliable, and highly available REST API services and WebSocket servers using node.js
- Collaborate with engineers (Backend, Frontend and Full-Stack) within the team to deliver services that fulfill customer needs and are always available
- Utilize the unique environment of having an internal customer base to take advantage of fast-feedback loops and rich insights into how your software is being used
- Partner with 2-3 other engineers on each project to implement and deliver critical software used in the Manufacturing process
- Incorporate stakeholder requirements and user feedback to iterate and evolve web applications that solve real-time data needs – and have a methodology for capturing these requirements and feedback
- Utilize the unique environment of having an internal customer base to take advantage of fast-feedback loops and rich insights into how your software is being used
- Partner with 2-3 other engineers on each project to implement and deliver critical software used in the Manufacturing process.

QUALIFICATIONS
- A bias to action: we are methodical, and we plan appropriately, but we do not get caught up in lengthy discussions around the “perfect” solution – rather, we find the smallest testable unit of work that can inform our approach from real user feedback and verifying the data we receive.
- 10+ years of experience in a modern backend language, using node.js / Go / Ruby or similar. If you can appropriately apply principles of backend development, the language you used previously is not a strict requirement.
- Relational Database experience: Comfortable with ORMs, SQL. You have defined a data model and implemented it in an RDBMS like Aurora, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or similar and you understand performance optimizations including but not limited to the use of Indexes and Caching
- Comfortable with deploying via a CI/CD pipeline to an AWS environment, working with Docker, and implementing proper tests, monitoring and observation practices.
- Familiar with the use of queues utilizing solutions like SQS, RabbitMQ, or similar.
- Experience working with projects that are not fully defined at the outset, requiring prototyping, research, and proof of concept validations to iterate towards the right solution
- Experience using version control (we use Git, but if you have used version control as a concept, the specific system is not an issue)
- Collaborative attitude and practices: we work in the open and communicate often
Salary Range for Colorado Based Applicants: $148,000-$170,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
