Role Summary

In this role, you will be the lead designer for thermal components and subsystems across multiple programs. You will work internally with thermal DREs and cross-functional teams including Packaging, Body, Electrical, Attribute, and Manufacturing, as well as externally with suppliers, to create 2D/3D drawings and ensure they meet Rivian standards in engineering, packaging, assembly, manufacturing, quality, reliability, and service. This position is preferred to be in Irvine, California. Other locations, e.g. Plymouth, Michigan or remote work, may be considered depending on qualifications. 

Responsibilities 

  • Create 2D/3D drawings in the PLM system for thermal components, e.g. heat exchangers, fan & fan shroud, active grille shutter (AGS), compressor, AC lines, coolant hoses, etc, and associated clips, brackets, and covers.
  • Work with thermal component DREs and system engineers to ensure the accuracy and robustness of the CAD model.
  • Work with the packaging team to configure and iterate packaging space for thermal components and subsystem.
  • Coordinate and participate in review with manufacturing and DVA (Dimensional Variation Analysis) to ensure vehicle assembly feasibility.
  • Review and update supplier CAD as needed.
  • Coordinate and participate in design reviews.
  • Design and release for critical program milestones, e.g. virtual release (VR), virtual build (VB), design verification build (DVB), manufacturing verification build (MVB), etc

Qualifications

  • BSME degree with in mechanical/automotive engineering preferred.
  • Associates degree or equivalent training in Computer Aided Design.
  • 5+ years of experience relevant to thermal component design and subsystem integration.
  • Experience and ability to create complex models of structural and rotating components in CATIA.
  • High proficiency in the following areas: 3D CAD creation in CATIA (v6 preferred), 2D Drawing creation from 3D CAD, 2D Drawing dimensioning and tolerancing, 2D GD&T application.
  • Tier 1 supplier design experience on refrigerant components and component assembly a plus.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process for refrigerant com.
