ICON is seeking a Sr. Hardware Reliability Engineer who will play a key role in the product lifecycle of our 3D printer systems while overseeing the assessment and management of the reliability of operations that could impact a product or business. The primary focus will be to determine the reliability of components, equipment, and processes to help sustain high levels of productivity and efficiency, through documenting, prioritizing, planning, delivering, and evaluating a system or product operations in order to minimize the risk and impact of a failure in equipment and processes aimed at supporting ICON’s mission of making dignified housing accessible to everyone and advance humanity with our technology. This role is based at ICON’s Austin, TX campus and will report to the Director of Hardware in the Mechanical Engineering department. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Identify and report on potential failures within a process.
  • Support design validation efforts and designing new systems.
  • Apply general engineering knowledge to solve problems.
  • Perform tests, operational hazard analyses, and conduct routine engineering calculations.
  • Liaise with relevant teams on outcomes of tests/analysis.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of dynamic reliability block-diagram analysis, fault tree analysis, and root cause analysis.
  • Complete Highly accelerated Life Testing (HALT) and Accelerated Life testing (ALT).
  • Lead functional analysis and functional failure analysis (e.g., function FMEA, FHA or FFA).
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of Preventative/Planned Maintenance Optimization (PMO) and Avoidance of single point of failure (SPOF).
  • Complete FMEA studies of hardware products.
  • Lead investigations to identify the root causes of failure.
  • Track mean time to failure (MTF) of all products.
  • Establish quality and reliability requirements for suppliers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Minimum 10+ years of working experience as a Reliability Engineer.
  • Experience with Reliability Analysis BlockSim Software.
  • Proven working experience in structural, thermal and fluid flow analysis.
  • Professional experience in manufacturing/production and reliability.
  • Data analytics skills.
  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma methodology.
  • Knowledge of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Reliability Hazard Analysis.
  • Ability to deliver high quality results in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to convey technical information to team members in a manner that is easily interpreted.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • Adept at communicating in a collaborative team environment and seeking optimum solutions with other team members.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously.
  • Effective problem identification and solution based mindset.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: 

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Certified Reliability Engineering (CRE).

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Working in an industrial and field environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the year.
