This role will report to the Manager of Fire Protection Engineering, Emergency Response, and Process Safety Management. The Senior Fire Protection Engineer will play a key role in strengthening EHS capabilities across the organization, partnering with EHS engineers and specialists to address complex engineering challenges and support the development and implementation of critical EHS programs.

The FPE will have a highly hands-on approach to problem-solving. Rapid and concise communication is a critical piece to this role; a candidate that strives for excellence, challenges themselves, and seeks opportunities for individual development will be a valuable addition to the Lucid GST EHS team.

The Role:

  • Work independently, apply engineering judgment, and develop innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Maintain working knowledge of IBC, IFC, and NFPA standards (including NFPA 13, 25, 30, 45, 70, 72, 101, 497, 499, 660).
  • Research and apply fire protection codes to support small‑scale changes in manufacturing operations.
  • Participate in NFPA technical code committees as needed.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Design Contractors to review and advise on fire protection code application for major capital projects across global manufacturing, R&D, and service/retail expansions.
  • Lead risk engineering practices and coordinate with property insurance field engineers.
  • Interface with city officials for permitting, inspections, reviews, and site walks.
  • Support implementation and long‑term sustainability of Process Safety Elements across the organization.
  • Provide technical problem‑solving support for day‑to‑day EHS operations.
  • Review work instructions, equipment, and practices to identify required controls or improvements.
  • Track and analyze EHS metrics and report findings to drive performance improvements.
  • Lead corrective action resolution using hands‑on, innovative problem‑solving approaches.
  • Support and participate in training sessions and information‑sharing activities.
  • Evaluate and oversee outcomes from detailed risk assessments (e.g., engineering evaluations, cost assessments, proposals to decision‑makers).
  • Collect and organize data for assessments and present findings to senior EHS leadership.
  • Serve as a project champion for strategic EHS initiatives across the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 5+ years, or a Master’s degree with 3+ years, or a PhD with 1+ year of fire protection experience in building design and construction; actively pursuing Fire Protection Engineering licensure.
  • Knowledge of automotive manufacturing EHS processes, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Understanding of lithium‑ion battery storage, handling risks, and best practices.
  • Experience preparing technical reports.
  • Experience in cross‑functional consulting and delivering effective, solutions‑oriented support to stakeholders across teams.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or walk for 10+ hours per day and climb stairs.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Highly self‑motivated with strong drive for results.
