Our rapidly growing Commercial Operations team of mission-driven, climate enthusiasts is passionate, innovative and committed to a better future for the planet. We are looking for a Sr Analyst, Power Trading who will be an integral part of the build out of a newly created Trading & Origination team which is responsible for the full life cycle of portfolio management. Our goal is to create a best in the business platform to manage the exposures for power, natural gas and environmental product supply. The role will be primarily focused on Short Term portfolio strategy, hedge execution, and market analytics/reporting.

How you’ll help:

  • Market Intelligence: Research and maintain knowledge of power and gas market fundamentals, ISO Market Rules & Regulations, and factors influencing spot and forward pricing
  • Market Analytics: Assess daily load forecasts, weather expectations, wind forecasts, solar forecasts, generation and transmission outages, and fuel inputs to form strategies for ST portfolio management 
  • Transaction Execution: Deploy full range of products and strategies (DART, Basis, Outrights) to maximize value of Short Term energy supply portfolio
  • Portfolio Reporting: Write market commentary with supporting market data for weekly and monthly portfolio reporting   
  • Portfolio Management: Support term power portfolio strategy development and execution 

Some Year 1 Deliverables:

  • Assume daily responsibility for ST power portfolio including validating load forecasts, assessing market conditions, and executing value enhancing hedge strategies 
  • Develop at least two commercial strategy recommendations to enhance ST portfolio margin such as DART, congestion, and delta hedging
  • Develop standard market intelligence deliverables for the business including dashboards and weekly market update materials
  • Develop suite of standard tools and reports to manage ST portfolio on a daily basis and be able to report out to stakeholders
  • Demonstrate deep expertise in the nuances of our portfolio and drivers for changes to our position and PnL

Here’s what you’ll bring to the table:

  • Must Have
    • Must have 4+ years of energy market experience in power generation, retail energy company, or renewable energy company
    • Knowledge of market fundamentals, commercial structures, and portfolio hedging strategies
    • Demonstrated ability to tackle projects methodically and drive outcomes
    • Ability to synthesize large sets of data into usable formats and communicate to others
  • Nice to Have
    • Retail energy experience
    • Programming Skills (C, C++, VBA, Python, Matlab, etc)
