Your role and your team:

We are looking for an outstanding Senior Thermo-Fluids Engineer to join our innovative team that will shape the future of urban e-mobility. This position will contribute, as part of an integrated cross-functional team, to the environmental control system architecture, design, and delivery of the Lilium Jet.

As a thermo-fluids analysis expert in Lilium’s Environmental Control System team, you will be responsible for developing the fluid dynamics and thermal aspects of our thermal management and HVAC systems in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment. You will develop thermo-fluidic models using first principles, simulations, and testing. You will validate these models against actual hardware and use the models to guide the design and architecture of the environmental control system. Your skills will be applied to everything from the high-level system architecture and performance scoping to the detailed heat transfer and fluid dynamics of flow distribution, cabin thermal comfort, duct losses, fan integration, gas filtration, fog removal, heat exchangers, and more to achieve exceptional cabin comfort and efficient heat transfer solutions at low weight, volume, and costs.

Your Day to Day:

  • Break down technical thermal engineering challenges into tractable models and simulations to identify potential problems, define suitable operating conditions, and optimize designs.
  • Develop component and system level thermo-fluidic models with an emphasis on fit for purpose level of abstraction
  • Collaborate with a broad group of design, test, and simulation engineers within and beyond system boundaries to achieve integrated and optimized component and system designs guided by your analyses and simulations.
  • Propose and develop measurement techniques to obtain the necessary information to accurately model the system of interest.
  • Document critical results in technical reports and proactively share relevant insight across stakeholders

Your Profile:

  • BS degree or above in Physics, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • First-principles physics understanding of multiple engineering disciplines such as: heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics
  • Working knowledge of thermal systems, including evaporators, condensers, fans, HVAC
  • Demonstrated ability for analyzing thermo-fluidic and multi-physics systems to solve complex engineering challenges
  • In-depth knowledge of fluid dynamics, conjugate heat transfer and their prediction with state-of-the-art CFD methods
  • Proficiency in working with CFD simulation tools (ideally Star-CCM+), potential network solvers (e.g., Amesim, Simscape)
  • Skilled Python programmer      
  • Planning and delivery of multiple assigned tasks effectively and efficiently
  • High level of self-reliance with the ability to work in a team, as well as autonomously
  • Target-oriented, driven work style with analytic problem-solving skills
  • Communicate clearly using excellent written, verbal, and data presentation skills
  • Fluent English language skills are essential
