Your role and your team:

You will report directly to the Team Lead Energy Testing and work closely with our Energy Testing Team.

The System Testing team is responsible for various disciplines covering component, system, and whole aircraft tests. Our team runs tests that facilitate certification, development, and research for the technology areas: Propulsion Systems, Energy Storage, Structures, Environmental Tests, and Hardware in the Loop (HIL).

You will serve as the person of contact and expert for all tests related to cells and manage the complete process of testing from feasibility assessment and requirements breakdown via concept development and test execution to data processing, whilst always keeping the goal of qualification and verification of our aircraft components in mind. You will develop, coordinate, and execute test that take cells to and beyond their limit, in close collaboration with our cell team, data scientists, mechanical, thermal, and simulation engineers. In this role you will ensure that our aircrafts fly with the best technology that is available today and in the future.

Your Day to Day:

  • Development, coordination, preparation, and execution of cell performance and characterisation tests, in-house and with external partners.
  • Analysis of test data and interpretation of the results.
  • Documentation of test plan, procedure and outcome.
  • Design and operation of test fixtures and test benches for analysing the electrical, electrochemical, and electromechanical behaviour of cells.
  • Planning, setup, and maintenance of battery test space and supporting laboratory.
  • Work on ad hoc related tasks or projects provided by management.
  • Embrace a fast-paced, experimental engineering culture by taking ownership of time and initiative to fail fast, learn and improve.
  • Adhere to safety best practices.

 

Your Profile:

  • 3+ years of experience in the battery testing world
  • BSc, MSc, or PhD or equivalent degree in engineering, physics, chemistry or a related field and relevant experience required.
  • Deep understanding of and hands-on experience with cell technology and advanced characterization techniques (e.g. EIS).
  • Experience with electrical and equipment like power supplies, loads, data acquisition systems, and battery cyclers.
  • Experience with building cells, particularly Li-ion cells, is a plus.
  • Experience/training in live working with hazardous voltages and battery systems is a plus.
  • Experience in the aerospace industry and with certification is a plus (e.g. testing according to DO311A, DO160, etc.).
  • Fluent English language skills are essential, fluent German or any other language would be beneficial.
  • Strong motivation to collaborate across multi-functional teams and to help build and shape our organization, structures and processes.
  • High level of self-reliance with the ability to work in a team, as well as autonomously.
  • Target-oriented, driven work style with analytic problem-solving skills.
