About the company:
Crusoe is on a mission to accelerate the abundance of energy and intelligence. As the only vertically integrated AI infrastructure company built from the ground up, we own and operate each layer of the stack — from electrons to tokens — to power the world's most ambitious AI workloads. When you join Crusoe, you join a team that is building the future, faster.
We're in the midst of the greatest industrial revolution of our time. The demand for AI compute is boundless, and power is a bottleneck. We're solving that — with an energy-first approach that makes AI infrastructure better for the world and faster for the people innovating with AI.
We're looking for problem-solving, opportunity-finding teammates with a sense of urgency, who believe in the scale of our ambition and thrive on a path not fully paved — people who want to grow their careers alongside a team of experts across energy, manufacturing, data center construction, and cloud services.
If you want to do the most meaningful work of your career, help our customers and partners advance their AI strategies, and be part of a high-performing team that believes in each other, come build with us at Crusoe.
As the Senior Staff Instrumentation & Controls Engineer, you will be the visionary lead for the "nervous system" of Crusoe’s hyperscale data centers. You will architect, design, and deploy the sophisticated BMS/EPMS and SCADA solutions that allow us to monitor and control our high-performance computing environments with surgical precision. This role is fundamental to Crusoe’s mission: by integrating HVAC, electrical, and monitoring infrastructure into a seamless, automated fabric, you ensure our AI-optimized cloud remains resilient, efficient, and scalable.
This leadership position demands a technical authority who can bridge the gap between heavy industrial hardware and modern software visualization. You won't just be managing systems; you will be defining the standards, frameworks, and design patterns that govern our global footprint. We are seeking a proactive builder who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about leveraging data-driven automation to reduce "alarm fatigue" and accelerate troubleshooting. This is a full-time position.
What You’ll Be Working On:
System Architecture & Design: Lead the architecture, design, and development of automation and visualization solutions for BMS/EPMS systems, ensuring seamless integration with HVAC, electrical, and monitoring infrastructure.
Standardization & Frameworks: Define system standards, frameworks, and design patterns for controls, PLC/SCADA, BMS, and EPMS implementations across multiple projects and sites.
Intuitive UI/UX Development: Develop intuitive dashboards, HMIs, and operator workflows that make complex building and power systems easy to monitor and control.
Automation Engineering: Build and maintain automation scripts, tags, templates, and reporting modules to streamline commissioning, testing, and operations at scale.
Protocol Integration: Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and OEM partners to scope, configure, and deploy projects utilizing BACnet, Modbus, OPC-UA, and MQTT protocols.
Operational Validation: Conduct system testing, simulation, and commissioning to validate architecture, functionality, and data accuracy prior to deployment.
Performance Analytics: Leverage controls platforms to collect and visualize real-time and historical data, enabling performance insights, fault detection, and predictive maintenance.
Mentorship & Best Practices: Mentor and train technicians and engineers on best practices for controls architecture, programming standards, and UI customization.
What You’ll Bring to the Team:
Automation Architecture Mastery: Extensive professional experience in automation system architecture, including PLC, SCADA, BMS, and EPMS platforms.
Mission-Critical Expertise: Proven ability to design scalable, maintainable automation frameworks and custom UIs in data center or high-availability environments.
Protocol Proficiency: Deep familiarity with control protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, OPC-UA, and MQTT, and integrating diverse systems into unified platforms.
Industrial Systems Literacy: Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical systems, PLC/DDC logic, and industrial automation concepts.
Strategic Technical Leadership: Demonstrated ability to translate operational and business needs into robust architecture and intuitive system solutions.
Innovative Problem Solving: A track record of solving complex automation challenges with data-driven solutions that improve resiliency and user experience.
Mandatory Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
Bonus Points:
Advanced Academic Credentials: A Master’s degree in a relevant engineering or technical field.
Industry Certifications: Relevant professional certifications in specific PLC or SCADA platforms.
Cybersecurity Focus: Experience ensuring controls implementations comply with industrial cybersecurity best practices.
Sustainability Alignment: A passion for leveraging automation to meet company-wide energy efficiency and sustainability goals.
