Join us at Form Energy, where we're pioneering energy storage solutions for a sustainable future. We're seeking a highly skilled Automation Engineer to be a key player in our new operations team. This team is dedicated to developing and deploying cutting-edge automated equipment for the production of Form Energy's revolutionary energy storage solutions.
As an Automation Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of innovation, supporting our automation lines with your expertise in automated systems. Your primary focus will be on ramping up production and sustaining automated systems to ensure they operate at peak efficiency. You will develop and implement strategies for maintaining and optimizing first-of-its-kind equipment, defining processes and best practices, and troubleshooting issues to minimize downtime. This opportunity is based out of Form Factory 1 – Form Energy’s 550,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located in Weirton, WV, a commutable distance from Pittsburgh. Purpose-built for high-volume, advanced battery production, Form Factory 1 is a hub of fast-moving, collaborative work driving a new era of large-scale American energy manufacturing in the heart of the Rust Belt.

Own the performance, reliability, and continuous improvement of robotic and automated manufacturing equipment.
Define and implement OEE and equipment performance metrics to identify loss drivers and prioritize improvement work.
Translate production data and downtime trends into clear problem statements, project scopes, and execution plans.
Lead equipment-focused improvement projects, including mechanical, tooling, fixturing, and station layout changes.
Create and maintain CAD designs and drawings to develop hardware solutions that address reliability, ergonomics, quality, and throughput issues.
Partner closely with controls engineers to specify requirements, validate data signals, and implement changes—while retaining ownership of the equipment and outcomes.
Respond to production events with a root-cause, system-level mindset, coordinating mechanical, electrical, and controls actions to restore and improve performance.
Support installation, commissioning, and ramp of new equipment, including active participation in design reviews, FATs, and SATs from an equipment owner perspective.
Optimize equipment parameters and station configuration in collaboration with production and quality teams.
Provide hands-on floor support in a high-volume manufacturing environment and establish standards to reduce repeat issues.
5+ years of applicable experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Strong understanding of automated manufacturing equipment, including industrial robotics, sensors, actuators, vision systems, and mechanical motion systems.
Demonstrated experience or aptitude in equipment engineering within a production or manufacturing environment, including system ownership and sustainment.
Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and system-level issues under production pressure.
Working knowledge of robot operation and commissioning (e.g., Fanuc Robotics certification or equivalent experience).
Ability to collaborate effectively across equipment, controls, manufacturing, quality, and operations to drive execution and results.
