About the company:

Lilium’s vision is to create a sustainable and accessible mode of high-speed, regional transportation.

Using the 7-Seater Lilium Jet, an electric vertical take-off and landing jet, offering leading capacity, low noise and high performance, Lilium is building a transport network and service for people and goods. Working in partnership with world-leading aerospace, technology, and infrastructure partners, commercial operations are set to launch in 2024.

Lilium’s 700+ strong team includes over 400 aerospace engineers and a leadership responsible for delivering some of the most successful aircraft in aviation history. Founded in 2015, Lilium’s headquarters and manufacturing facilities are in Munich, Germany, with teams based across Europe and the U.S.

A career at Lilium is for those who want to do something extraordinary. We take pride in pushing the boundaries of engineering, technology and customer experience

Apart of a team, you will tackle challenges and deliver something that has never been done before. By joining Lilium you will have the opportunity to work with a world-class entrepreneurial team of more than  800 people who are as passionate about changing the world as you are.

You will always act with safety and integrity in mind and embody our core behaviors of efficient and positive collaboration, ownership of time, continuous improvements and, ultimately delivering results.

We thrive on diversity and creating an inclusive culture, with more than 50 nationalities currently working hard to bring our vision of a sustainable world to life.

Your role and your team:

You will be part of the DevOps Engineering-Team and work closely with our Global IT-Organization & teams in Lilium’s Design Organization. The DevOps Engineering-Team owns end-to-end responsibility for sourcing, integrating and deploying applications & solutions required by Lilium’s Design Organization to develop our aircraft. On this venture our engineers collaborate with suppliers of aircraft parts, electronic hardware, software, systems & engineering services and our production organization to develop & certify our electrical vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicle.

In the the DevOps Engineering-Team your mission is to take functional leadership in IT for the development & operation (DevOps) of our Application-Lifecycle-Management-System (ALM-System), the toolchain for model-based software & systems engineering (MBSE-Toolchain) and the version control / configuration management solutions for artifacts that are relevant for development & certification of our eVTOL vehicle. You will be successful in this role if you are an expert in MBSE-Tools (e.g. Enterprise Architect, Magic Draw, Capella, Simulink) and ALM (e.g. Polarion, PTC-Integrity, DOORS NextGen). You should have or be able to create a vision for cloud-native ALM- & MBSE-Services that leverages the flow, productivity & simplicity in provisioning of these solutions including spin-up, scale-out, backup & recovery of the “state of the aircraft program”. It helps a lot if you have a strong business acumen & entrepreneurial mindset in order to give leadership to external partners, decide about the right number & type of licenses and do proper scaling of resources in the public cloud. With monitoring tools & dashboards you look at key performance indicators in order to judge how work is processed and solutions are utilized under your functional leadership. You will improve/migrate and extend our monitoring system for the ALM-System & the MBSE-Toolchain to increase transparency of utilization and allow decision to be cut based on data. Familiarity with DO178c and/or DO330 is a big asset as you will help to accelerate the certification-process of our eVTOL vehicle as Lilium approaches type certification and series production. Your strong communication skills and your ability “to lead without power” are required to manage internal stakeholders, partners and the industry’s well-known suppliers of tools & services. As part of your personal development, you will sharpen or grow your knowledge on compute-, networking- and storage-services in the public cloud and how to lift & shift the engineers’ workflows to the public cloud – compliant with regulatory requirements for storage/backup & retrieval imposed by EASA & FAA. A big asset is familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, continuous integration and continuous deployment with open-source tools like Jenkins, Terrafrom, Packer, CMake SVN & Git.

Your Day to Day:

  • Take technical leadership for the ALM-System (Siemens Polarion) “end-2-end”: Take features from concept to operations and lead growth of excellence in Development Operations including provisioning, back-up, retrieval and roll-back of the solution & it’s data – the “state of the aircraft program” as seen from a requirements-engineering- / problem-report-perspective. Maintain releases of the ALM-System in cadence.
  • Take technical leadership for the customization, integration & deployment of the MBSE-Toolchain (here: Enterprise Architect, Capella, Simulink) “end-2-end”: Take features from concept to operations and lead growth of excellence in Development Operations including provisioning, back-up, retrieval and integration of these tools with the ALM-System. Maintain releases of the toolchain in cadence.
  • Take technical leadership for version control / configuration management of artifacts (SVN) “end-2-end”: Take features like commit-hooks from concept to operations and lead growth of excellence in Development Operations including provisioning, back-up, retrieval and roll-back of the virtual machines.
  • Detail out, provide & operate a Continuous-Integration-Service in Lilium with the industry’s well-known tools (Jenkins, CMake, Matlab & Simulink, Polyspace, compilers & linkers for the aircraft’s computing platforms) to speed up & scale out cloud-native verification & validation activities in Lilium. Offer this as a self-service in our IT-Service-Management-Platform (ServiceNow).
  • Lead engineering service providers and IT-Service providers in small to medium sized initiatives (2 to 6 engineers working on libraries, scripts, 1st-level-support activities and configuration of the ALM-System).
  • Support design engineers in Lilium as they adopt the new features in the ALM-System & in the MBSE-Toolchain.
  • Use your Windows-Administrator skills to either solve and/or coordinate resolution of technical issues in the backend, writing scripts, deployment and operation of the ALM-System & MBSE-Toolchain.
  • Use your skills in Azure or grow skills in Azure (we offer certifications as part of our employee experience) to leverage cloud-native workflows.
  • Translate the engineers’ requirements and problems into tangible customizations and configurations of the ALM-System & the MBSE-Toolchain; provide leadership to external vendors who help you in operating your share of the stack in Lilium’s enterprise systems.
  • Organize and lead training session for the ALM-System & the MBSE-Toolchain in Lilium.
  • Use your entrepreneurial mindset to decide on make-or-buy of customizations, the right number of licenses and degree of automation in deployment, support & training.
  • Work with the engineers and IT-Operations to ensure the ALM-System & the MBSE-Toolchain complies with regulatory requirements for storage/backup & retrieval imposed by EASA & FAA.

Your Profile:

  • Min of 5 years’ hands-on experience in development, integration, deployment & operation of the MBSE-toolchain in the automotive or aerospace industry – OEM-experience or solution provider experience is very welcome; experience with domain-specific configuration of Enterprise Architect is an asset, e.g. for AUTOSAR or ARINC653.
  • Min of 5 years’ hands-on experience in development, integration, deployment & operation of ALM-Systems in the automotive or aerospace industry – OEM-experience or solution provider experience is very welcome; more than one year of experience with configuration of Siemens Polarion is mandatory.
  • Analytical skills & desire to cut decisions based on data combined with a service-oriented mindset. Knowledge of Zabbix, Grafana & Prometheus is an asset.
  • Must be able to work with little oversight and discover what is the right way forward for the company w.r.t the ALM-System & the MBSE-Toolchain without being told.
  • Outstanding listening and communication skills, active listener.
  • Ability to enjoy working in a fast-paced, agile environment that requires resilience to change and self-management but offers multiple directions for growth.
  • Strong demonstrated cross-functional leadership skills to lead both internal stakeholders and external partners “without power”.
  • Cross-functional knowledge of Enterprise-IT-Systems (both hardware and software) must be able to work hands-on with Windows-Servers, (batch-/powershell-/python-) scripts and some degree of networking. Knowledge of Microsoft Azure is an asset. Lilium offers Azure certifications as part of our employee experience.
  • Some experience with IT-Service-Management and knowledge of Jira & Confluence is required. Experience with ServiceNow is asset. Lilium offers ServiceNow certifications as part of our employee experience.
  • Some familiarity with Matlab & Simulink is required to understand workflows & test integrations with Siemens Polarion.
  • Fluent in English, German is a plus
