Our award-winning software puts the power of data and technology into the hands of every solar professional to make solar adoption simple and predictable. Our software has designed millions of solar projects so far, empowering solar companies to sell, design, and install residential and commercial solar arrays accurately, seamlessly, and at scale.

We are a remote-first collaborative team of sustainable energy enthusiasts who love what we do. We’ve been named one of "The Best Mid-Sized Remote Companies To Work for in 2024" by BuiltIn.com and have been recognized for the second time as a Certified Green Business (CGB) with the city of San Francisco. We’re in this together to support the world’s transition to solar.

About the Role

As a software engineer on the data modeling team at Aurora, you will help us develop a new data model that will act as a platform for our optimization engines, our solar design platform so we can generate and analyze bigger systems faster and with more accuracy. We will be providing teams with a single source of truth for design data, allowing for no ambiguity and reducing overhead for performance and testability.

Your Impact

  • Program in Python and C++

  • Improve our data model library, allowing it to serve our design data to all internal teams and set those teams up to integrate when possible

  • Work closely with other teams on integration of the data mode library, working out requirements and blockers to adoption and resolving those issues

  • Update documentation as appropriate and necessary, to ensure all stakeholders are given the tools necessary to use and leverage the capabilities of the data model.

  • Write automated tests and debug problems found during integration.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years experience as a SWE working with advanced data structures and algorithms

  • Academic background in any of: linear algebra, calculus, computational geometry, statistics, control theory, optimization, or numerical algorithms

  • Solid understanding of modern C++. Knowledge of other languages such as Javascript, Python, Ruby, and Go are a plus

  • Contributions to large software projects as a member of a broader team

  • Familiarity with Git or other version control systems, and with build and test tools

  • Passion for renewable energy and sustainability

  • Ability to perform and thrive in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to succeed given direction and guidance, while applying your problem-solving skills to find the best solution to problems

  • Language Requirement: Proficient in both written and spoken English. We kindly request that your resume be submitted in English, preferably

Nice to Haves

  • Practical experience with analog simulation, place & route engines, or various analog and discrete optimization methods

  • Comfortable with CI/CD build configuration and optimization

  • Familiarity with AWS and cloud-based architecture
