The responsibilities and duties of the Senior Prototype Battery Build Engineer will be as follows:

This role will serve as the lead prototype battery build engineer at our battery development centre. In this role you will:

  • Establish and develop a team that will be focused on prototype battery build
  • Lead the build and in-process testing of battery packs and modules, including low and high voltage electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Support the establishment of our battery development centre, including system commissioning, process development and initial operator training.
  • Establish manufacturing plans, standard operating procedures, safe systems of work and risk assessments
  • Work closely with battery engineering teams to ensure that manufacturing and assembly considerations are built into the battery design (DFM/DFA)
  • Specify and source equipment and tools as necessary for the production of prototype batteries
  • Generate build process documents, including but not limited to Bills of Sequence, Bills of Process, Process Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (PFMEA)
  • Establish and control a safe working environment for all personnel, including the production of processes and controls
  • Plan the equipment and resources required to enable future build programmes.
  • Carry out post-build analysis, lessons learned, report writing and continuous improvement actions including 8D problem solving and defect resolution

 

The successful Senior Prototype Battery Build Engineer will have the following Experiences & Qualifications:

  • A degree in an engineering or technical discipline, or equivalent experience
  • A comprehensive working knowledge of HV lithium-ion battery systems
  • Significant hands-on experience of battery build/manufacture operations
  • Significant experience in the use of automated machinery, including set-up and configuration.
  • Experience of cell welding techniques
  • A strong knowledge of the health and safety challenges around battery testing.
  • The ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues
  • Experience in battery test methods and data analysis
  • Experience of automated battery test systems, including BMS and CAN communications
  • Experience of operating, maintaining and calibrating automation and control equipment and associated systems
