About Vertical

We are breaking the boundaries and pushing our commitment to the EVTOL world by changing the way the world travels. Our mission is powered by pioneers and progress is our prerogative.

Here at Vertical, we are developing the UK’s first fully electric, vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL), the VX4. With zero-operating emissions. Vertical is transforming the way people travel by offering a faster, safer, and greener way to move.

We are seeking a senior design engineer that thrives on working on new and novel engineering concepts.  You will provide technical leadership to internal and contracted design engineers and guide them to create novel propeller systems for Vertical’s EVTOL aircraft. You will be the design lead with check responsibility for the aircraft propellers systems.

What success will look like for the Advanced Cell Engineer:

  • Design ownership of complicated composite and metallic parts/components within the propellers systems.
  • Design Check Signatory for the Propellers Systems.
  • Integration of the components/sub-systems to create viable propeller systems, including extensive liaison with manufacturers and Vertical’s Build & Maintenance Team.
  • Writing reports, some of which will be verification evidence required by the regulator to permit the aircraft to conduct flight test, and presenting design concepts to the business.
  • Ownership of the interfaces with adjacent systems, working closely with internal and external colleagues to create and integrate optimised solutions.
  • Management and technical leadership of internal and contracted design engineers.
  • Fulfil any additional tasks related to design of the propeller systems or aircraft structure as deemed necessary by the leadership team (Propeller Systems Principal Engineer, Product Team Lead and Head of Structures)

Everything sounds very interesting but how do I know this is the role for me?

  • Degree, HNC or Apprenticeship in a relevant field
  • IT skills and extensive experience of Catia V5 (3DX including composite workbench is also highly desirable)
  • Proven experience holding checker or approver technical signatory, or clear and demonstrable evidence of readiness for check signatory responsibility
  • Extensive experience designing complex composite structures
  • Experience of creation of system assembly drawings and instructions for continued airworthiness
  • Experience in technical design leadership roles, or clear and demonstrable evidence of readiness for such a role
  • An ability and willingness to be based in our Bristol office, on a hybrid bases
  • Demonstrable experience integrating across multiple engineering disciplines and organisations

Desirable

  • Previous design roles with propeller blades/systems
  • Sub-Contractor / Supplier management experience
  • Understanding of key characteristics and tolerances
  • Exposure to and understanding of modern manufacturing methods.
  • Evidence of working with requirements and the verification of them in for certification of products
