Role Description
Form Energy’s Software Product & Design team collaborates closely with Software Engineering to build innovative apps and tools that touch every part of Form’s product experience and company operations. As a Senior Product Designer, early projects may include designing data visualization interfaces for new web apps, iterating on feature design changes to address user experience pain points, performing research on both physical and digital workflows, and building a library of common design patterns and components. As the first dedicated product designer at Form Energy, you’ll be in a position to chart a course for the product design function as the company scales. This is a unique opportunity to leverage your design experience while directly impacting climate change as part of a fast-growing team.

Form Energy, where possible, embraces a digital work environment and supports onsite, hybrid, and remote types of work with office locations in Somerville, MA (Greater Boston), Berkeley, CA (San Francisco Bay Area), and Eighty Four, PA (Greater Pittsburgh). #LI-DNI

What You'll Do:

  • Design software tools, interfaces, and applications for users that span business development, materials scientists, manufacturing engineers, field technicians, and more.
  • Immerse yourself in the needs and pain points of users and stakeholders, conducting both qualitative and quantitative research into their workflows, data needs, and functional requirements.
  • Work closely with product managers, software engineering, and internal/external stakeholders to capture, organize, and clearly communicate design requirements and specifications.
  • Iterate on design assets and prototypes to ensure alignment with stakeholder needs, product prioritization, and software engineering execution.
  • Nerd out on the interplay of hardware, software, data, energy systems and electricity market conditions (ok if you’re excited to learn!)
  • Advocate for design best practices across the company, and lead by example.
  • Act as a collaborative member of a distributed software product team.
  • What You'll Bring:

  • Passion for our mission, sustainability, and tackling climate change
  • Empathy for users and a curiosity to deeply understand their needs and varying perspectives/experience.
  • Mid-to-senior (3 - 7 plus years experience) level professional software product design  experience - strong candidates of all experience levels encouraged to apply.
  • Experience designing and refining data-intensive user interfaces and workflow web applications.
  • Expertise with design tools (e.g. Figma, Sketch, Adobe XR) and experience building design pattern libraries.
  • Ability to translate and harmonize physical in-person workflows with a parallel digital experience.
  • A pragmatic approach to problem-solving that blends good judgment, clear communication, follow-through, and creative use of resources.
  • Familiarity with industrial grade technology, systems, and manufacturing not required but a strong plus.
  • Background in renewables, storage, or utilities, or strong desire to learn
