We are looking for an experienced Process Modeling Engineer to join our dynamic team. By focusing on driving process modeling and system analysis through advanced thermal analysis, process simulation, and seamless integration of high-temperature heat into diverse industrial processes, this role will make a huge impact by enhancing Rondo Heat Battery (RHB) Systems across the globe.

What You Will Do (key responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to): 

  • Lead the development of complex system models that incorporate the operational theories of mechanical, thermal, control, and electrical engineering, within custom software environments 
  • Conduct comprehensive performance analyses of heat batteries using data collected from prototypes and ongoing system operations 
  • Address and document solutions to system challenges, covering aspects like thermal load integration, equipment type and sizing, control philosophy, and instrumentation requirements 
  • Drive technical evaluations and sensitivity analyses, particularly in areas concerning system performance, reliability, and efficiency 
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to execute end-to-end analyses, including data requirement gathering, data processing, and system modeling 
  • Proficiently identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns within complex datasets and translate the insights into visually compelling dashboards and reports 

  

What You Will Bring: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or chemical engineering, or equivalent industry experience 
  • 5+ years of experience, preferably in process modeling, system design engineering, and first-principles 
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of heat transfer, transport phenomena, and thermodynamics fundamentals. 
  • Expert knowledge of process modeling software such as Aspen Plus or similar tools for process modeling. 
  • Knowledge of common programming languages (Python, C/C++, SQL, VBA, EES, etc.) for writing efficient queries, data manipulation, and analysis. 
  • Adaptability to a start-up environment; capability to independently define broad problems, seek/evaluate solution methods, and develop own tasks and timelines. 
  • Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills. 

 

Bonus Points! 

  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in mechanical or chemical engineering or related field 
  • Experience working with time-series sensor data to perform robust process modeling. 
  • Working knowledge of Simulink, MATLAB, and/or FEA / CFD modeling tools. 
  • Experience working in one or more of the following is a plus: Steam/Superheated Gas Processing Systems, Furnace Systems, Fluid/Chemical Process Systems, Industrial Systems 
  • Prior experience in producing process deliverables, such as process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and functional specifications for thermal hardware.

This necessitates being on-site at our Alameda HQ or in Houston, TX. The estimated annual salary range for this role is $170,000 to $200,000 and it would be eligible for Rondo's excellent benefits listed above plus additional compensation in the form of equity. Please note that some pay bands may have wide ranges of compensation to accommodate candidates' diverse sets of skill levels and experience.
