We are looking for an experienced Platform Engineer to join our team in the development of one of Octopus Group's most exciting businesses, and help accelerate the British driving public on their energy transition.

We are building a whole new way for drivers to join the electric revolution and not only learn about and shop for their EV online, but experience a 'lease for life' through an industry changing customer experience.

The engineering team is crucial in bringing this vision to life, working as part of a wider Product team that collaborates hand in hand with teams across the company to deliver it in a record time.

We’re excited that our engineering team and infrastructure is at the size and scale where we’re in a position to hire our first dedicated senior platform engineer. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to be hands-on, have ownership of building a small platform team, have technical leadership and possible people management.

What you'll do

Drive our transition to AWS as we build out a more scalable and future-proof platform

Identify and lead on initiatives to improve our delivery processes to enable our teams to ship new features faster and with more confidence

Establish new processes to maintain and improve reliability and performance across our apps and services

Work closely with the wider team to ensure the security of our systems

Collaborate with cross-disciplinary product teams on new features and services helping facilitate the infrastructure necessary to build modern scalable applications

What you'll need

Hands on experience building out infrastructure on AWS with good understanding of the different services and their pros and cons

Experience with Terraform and appreciation for the principles behind Infrastructure as Code

Fundamental programming skills and working knowledge of Python and frameworks such as Flask or FastAPI

Good understanding of relational databases such as Postgres

Proven experience with distributed systems and the technologies needed to ensure their effectiveness and robustness

Affinity for the principles behind DevOps and continuous delivery

An interest in sustainability, green energy and zero-emissions transport
