The Senior Payroll and HRIS Specialist will be responsible for the organization’s payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. This is a hands-on position for someone who is ready to roll their sleeves up and get the job done. The People Operations team is scrappy and flexible with a start-up culture of pitching in and helping out where needed. We are looking for a candidate that can identify gaps and areas of opportunity and is willing to self-start and move the organization forward.

 

You Aspire To: 

Payroll Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, multi-state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  • Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.
  • Performs various HR cross-over responsibilities as requested.

HRIS Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Understands key priorities and identifies ways to share data through regularly updated reports for ongoing managerial needs
  • Designs and provides organization reports, ad hoc, and standards, to ensure business leaders have the information necessary to drive solid decisions.
  • Collaborate within the HR Operations team and with other departments to provide HR data analytics and contribute to process improvements.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedure documentation for HR systems and operational processes.
  • Evaluate the processing and workflow of the team to drive efficiencies within the team and across the organization.
  • Manage all HR systems to ensure they are meeting company needs and are integrated and accessible; ensure data integrity; implement system upgrades effectively; identify gaps, and make recommendations for improvement.

What's Essential:

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and multi-state payroll taxes.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in aligning payroll with benefits and other HR-related criteria to ensure effective, integrated reporting capabilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Payroll subject matter expert to advise all levels of management on best practices
  • Knowledge of Federal and State employment, payroll, and tax laws, as well as other pertinent regulations such as FLSA, FMLA, CFRA, and PFL.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field required.
  • 5+ years of payroll processing, compliance, payroll tax, and payroll reporting.
  • 3+ years of applicable analysis and reporting experience for Human Resources
  • Proficient with payroll software, preferably ADP Workforce Now.

Desirable Experience:

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
  • Certified Human Resources Information Professional (HRIP) is a plus.
