Role Description
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Drafter to be responsible for converting mechanical and electrical component designs into part and assembly drawings.  This role will focus on both product designs and manufacturing equipment designs. The ideal candidate will have direct experience drafting components and assemblies for high volume production and exhibit an ability to creatively solve mechanical / electrical drawing challenges to ensure clear communication of the design and requirements. Further, this role will be responsible for creating and maintaining drawing templates within the Solidworks environment. The Senior Mechanical Drafter must be comfortable working on highly interdisciplinary teams and will be expected to work across disciplines to capture requirements and design intent.

What You'll Do:

  • Convert component level designs into part and assembly drawings
  • Proactively engage mechanical and electrical engineers to ensure drawing dimensions / tolerances / notes meet internal design intent 
  • Work with a variety of internal teams to determine appropriate inspection processes and dimensions for inclusion on drawings 
  • Manage / update drawing templates within Solidworks + mentor others internally as they generate their own drawings
  • Manage complex, top-level assemblies; compile / reformat BOMs as needed from Solidworks for input into the PLM and ERP systems
  • Incorporate Dfx notes / suggestions from suppliers into part and assembly drawings 
  • Efficiently manage drawing completion within a fast paced environment of rapidly changing priorities
  • Propose new (and support existing) best practices for CAD and drawing creation
  • What You'll Bring:

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, AA degree, or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of industry experience in mechanical / electrical drafting in a product development setting
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing methods (injection molding, stamping, casting, etc.) and their impact on design geometry and tolerances
  • Proficient in Solidworks (CAD) 
  • Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experience using a PLM system for document control and change management
  • Experience with incorporating Critical-to-Quality and SPC requirements into drawings
  • Experience with Control Plans a plus
  • Experience with Altium (or other PCBA design systems) a plus
