Job Description:

The Senior Material Scientist will lead the development of new materials and material processing technologies to improve the performance and sustainability of Hazel’s existing and new products.  The individual will be responsible for designing, developing, and characterizing new materials, as well as conducting experiments and analyzing data to support product development and optimization efforts.

Responsibilities:

  • Able to lead and complete multiple materials science related projects independently.
  • Able to conduct research and development activities to evaluate, identify, and develop new materials and material processing technologies that can be applied to Hazel’s products.
  • Able to create new formulations that meet specific performance requirements through scientific approaches from determining optimal ratios of ingredients to selecting the appropriate delivery mechanisms.
  • Able to improve the performance of existing materials and chemical processes to increase efficiency, reduce waste and increase yield.
  • Able to characterize the physical and chemical properties of materials, using a variety of analytical techniques including chromatography, spectroscopy, and thermal analysis.
  • Able to lead pilot plant operations and manage in-house manufacturing trials.
  • Familiar with membrane technology for gas separation.
  • Deliver results on time and achieve milestones necessary for business objectives.
  • Leverage existing knowledge to develop and implement innovative experimental design.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in materials research and development in an industrial setting, preferably in the agriculture, chemical or packaging industry.
  • Expertise in materials synthesis, characterization, and processing techniques.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience using a variety of analytical techniques.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and mentor junior staff.

Salary Range: $100,000-$120,000
