Who You Are

The Senior Manufacturing Equipment Reliability Engineer is responsible for all engineering aspects related to SILA’s manufacturing tools. As a seasoned engineer, you will be troubleshooting our manufacturing tools and identifying shortcomings in current tool implementation, based on your reliability mentality and background, you are expected to continuously improve on our tool design with the goal of maximizing tool reliability. You will be working multi-functionally with software, equipment design, control, and material engineers.

You are a curious mind and feel right at home at the intersection of multiple engineering fields. You have the aim to understand and improve complex machinery. You are an engineering Generalist.

Your input will further shape the architecture, design and deployment of large scale industrial reactors and machinery and your contributions will be necessary for the deployment of robust, expandable and well documented solutions at Sila. In short: you will be essential to keep production running at Sila.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Improve and debug hardware and equipment-driving software throughout the company.
  • Drive and coordinate ongoing equipment improvements and modifications.
  • Ensure operational excellence/reliability of machines and their dependencies.
  • Work collaboratively with other teams (Equipment Architecture/Design, Data Systems, Manufacturing, Process Development) to develop, maintain, troubleshoot, optimize, and improve machine design, instrumentation, control code and electrical subsystems for synthesis tools and facilities.
  • Define criteria and potential test strategies for the next generation of SILA manufacturing equipment.
  • Help in the development of meaningful, robust self diagnostics of machines incorporating data from process databases and document them rigorously.
  • Assist in optimizing our tool maintenance strategy and philosophy to increase tool reliability and minimizing downtime

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • At least a B.S. in Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering and 4-5 years of industry experience (fewer for candidates with an advanced degree).
  • Strong fundamental understanding of field-deployed electronics, sensors, and motion components.
  • Familiarity with industrial electrical design, including: wiring diagrams, industrial network architecture, control panel design, power distribution, and protocols for process automation. Experience with unique and challenging industrial electrical safety requirements.
  • Experience with writing and implementing SQL queries.
  • Experience with data analytic tools and of scripting languages (JMP/R/Python)
  • Direct reliability engineering related experience.
  • Ability to do read/understand programming code (C#, Python) is a plus.
  • Ability to perform queries using SQL is a plus.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection on a daily basis
  • Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes
  • Move items up to 50 lbs with the assistance of lift equipment and carts
  • Move long distances (such as from building to building) and be stationary for extended periods of time
  • Reach low shelves or items on the floor
  • Enter spaces narrower than 3 feet
  • Climb stairs or over containment walls
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a laptop, copier/printer, etc in a fixed location

The starting base pay for this role is between $108,500 and $167,750 at the time of posting. The actual base pay within these ranges depends on many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. Base pay is only one part of Sila’s competitive Total Rewards package that can include benefits, perks, equity, and bonuses. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future
