About the company:
Our Mission
At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The VX4, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take-off and landing), ‘zero emissions’ aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky.
We won’t realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed, instead, we want to ‘redefine’ aerospace best practices.
We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals of having the VX4 in service by 2030.
What to Expect
You’ll be part of the Hybrid Powertrain team, based primarily at Camwal Court, with occasional work at Kemble. Reporting to the Head of Hybrid Powertrain, this is an individual contributor role focused on developing and delivering innovative fuel system solutions for our next-generation hybrid-electric aircraft.
What You’ll Do
As a Senior Fuel Systems Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the fuel systems of both the aircraft demonstrator and certification aircraft. Your work will directly influence the safety, performance, and integration of the hybrid powertrain.
Your day-to-day and weekly responsibilities will include:
Decomposing high-level system requirements into actionable fuel system requirements
Developing top-level fuel system architectures aligned with aircraft needs
Conducting functional and safety analyses in compliance with aerospace standards (e.g. ARP 4754)
Collaborating closely with suppliers to select and integrate optimal hardware solutions
Creating verification and validation plans and supporting test teams in system qualification
Managing system and component requirements using Jama
Supporting integration of the fuel system within the broader hybrid-electric propulsion architecture
Contributing to design reviews and ensuring alignment with program milestones
What You’ll Bring
Strong background in aerospace systems engineering
Hands-on experience with fuel systems in aerospace or similar high-integrity environments
Familiarity with ARP 4754 and system safety methodologies
Experience conducting system safety assessments (ARP4761).
Proficiency in using requirements management tools such as Jama/Doors
Nice-to-have
Previous experience with hybrid-electric aircraft systems or propulsion architectures
A curious mindset with a drive to challenge existing assumptions
Comfort navigating ambiguity and working in a fast-paced, innovative environment
