We are looking for a Senior Flight Control Laws Engineer who will:

The responsibilities and duties of a Senior Flight Control Laws Engineer will be as follows:

You will serve as a focal point the control laws for our aircraft. In this role you will:

  • Lead the development and execution of the strategy for the design and analysis of our control laws
  • Lead the design and build of analysis tools, methods and process for analysis of control law performance and assessment of stability and robustness
  • Test and analyse models in simulation and with hardware in the loop
  • Generate, review and author control law requirements and participate in requirements management tasks
  • Analyse flight test data and use it to perform system identification
  • Lead validation and verification tasks
  • Collaborate with both internal and external partners in developing our control law design

The successful Senior Flight Control Laws Engineer will have the following Experience & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Aerospace/Aeronautical/Control Engineering or other relevant discipline
  • Experience of developing higher-order control laws for clean-sheet aircraft designs
  • Strong mathematical ability
  • Expert MATLAB/Simulink skills
  • Effective technical writing and presentation skills and an ability to clearly communicate conclusions from large and complex datasets
  • Ability to be a strong voice for Vertical Aerospace in discussions with external partners and collaborative environments
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a small, motivated team
  • Ability to mentor, develop and guide junior team members

Highly desirable:

  • Knowledge of advanced control theory, such as μ-Analysis and/or nonlinear dynamic inversion
  • Experience in aero-servo-elasticity / structural coupling analysis

Also beneficial:

  • Familiarity with the processes associated with the certification of control laws
  • Experience of requirements management and use of requirements management tools
  • Knowledge of system identification methodology and its application to building mathematical models of dynamic systems
  • Experience working with novel aircraft configurations and/or aircraft which undergo transition
  • Experience of control law design for load alleviation
  • Experience of in-flight structural modes testing
  • Chartered Engineer status
