About the Role

Square Roots is looking for a Sr. Environmental Systems Engineer to join us at our headquarters in Brooklyn, NY. This person will be an integral part of our hardware engineering team, and will be responsible for developing water and nutrient management solutions for new and existing farms. They will also provide support in prototyping or evaluating new systems and components, as well as in upgrading and maintaining our existing equipment.

You will: 

• Define water and nutrient management requirements in collaboration with product, engineering, farm operations, and other departments.
• Lead the development of cost-effective, reliable, and manufacturable equipment and components to ensure water quality is maintained efficiently.
• Analyze, design, and manage mechanical, electrical, biological, and plumbing systems.
• Create CAD drawings and maintain engineering documentation from prototype to production.
• Assemble and install prototype farming systems and components.
• Research and procure materials, supplies, and equipment for engineering projects.
• Implement methods and equipment to analyze water quality in a laboratory setting.
• Provide mentorship to other engineers.

You have experience with:

• Designing, building, and commissioning agricultural water management systems.
• Establishing water quality criteria for hydroponic systems.
• Developing control systems alongside software and electrical engineers.
• Creating complex assemblies in SolidWorks.
• Rapid prototyping, iterative design, as well as manufacturing tools and processes (3D printing, injection molding, machine tools, casting, etc)
• A four year environmental engineering degree or equivalent. Master’s degree preferred.
• 3-5+ years of applicable experience

COVID-19 Vaccination Policy:

New employees are required to be fully vaccinated prior to their start date. The definition of fully vaccinated includes a booster for those that are eligible.

You are considered fully vaccinated if: 

• You have received a full series of the vaccine recently (meaning 2 doses within 5 months for the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, or 1 dose within 2 months for Johnson and Johnson). 
• You received your full series over 5 months ago for Pfizer and Moderna or over 2 months ago for Johnson and Johnson, and have also received a booster shot. 

Proof of vaccination is required during the hiring process, and employees will be required to get booster shots as they become eligible to maintain their fully-vaccinated status.  

As federal guidance on booster shots evolves, the definition of ‘fully vaccinated’ may change.
