What You Will Be Doing

The Sr. Employee Relations Consultant will lead the employee relations function at ChargePoint and will provide guidance to management and the People team in the resolution of all performance management and employee relations issues, including complex, escalated and sensitive employee relations issues.  The ER consultant seeks to analyze, investigate, and guide the resolution in a timely manner that seeks to promote a respectful workplace culture (e. g., guidance on employment law; investigations of inappropriate conduct or policy violations.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct timely and thorough internal investigations of all issues and complaints raised, documents findings, work with HR/legal and make recommendations to management as appropriate.
  • Help set up the Employee Relations function at ChargePoint by developing, implementing, and administering employee relations policies, procedures, and best practices to create a positive working environment.
  • Coach, guide and influence managers and leaders regarding critical and complex employee relations decisions. Partner with stakeholders and Legal team to review and make recommendations on complex issues, such as terminations, investigations, and medical issues/accommodations, to ensure consistency in how issues are approached and handled and effectively manage risk.
  • Stay current on employment law and employment law trends
  • Tracks trends in various types of employee relations cases to proactively identify issues and develop strategies to address root cause.
  • Point of escalation for policy interpretations, clarification, and recommendations for updates and changes 

What You Will Bring to ChargePoint

The Sr. Employee Relations Consultant is responsible for providing advice and counsel to leaders, managers and employees on a variety of employee relations and management issues.


The individual in this role must have strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. The individual must also be able to work independently and support multiple projects in a high volume, fast-paced environment. Additionally, the individual must be flexible, agile, and able to collaborate in a hybrid/virtual environment.

Basic qualifications

  • 10+ years of Employee Relations experience with at least 3 years leading the function.
  • Expert  knowledge of employment, wage and hour, FMLA and EEO laws
  • Outstanding skills in conflict resolution, counselling, coaching,  negotiations, risk management, and building relationships with employees at all levels
  • Strong analytical skills to identify trends and interpret information.
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent work experience

Preferred qualifications

  • Solid understanding of general HR principles and policies
  • Excellent investigation and documentation skills
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to exercise sound judgment based on policies, procedures, practices, risk factors and precedent
  • Exceptional communication skills with a high degree of attention to detail. Experience handling sensitive matters with tact & diplomacy
  • Resourceful, with ability to work as a self-starter in a face paced, flexible environment
  • Ability to act with sense of urgency, while maintaining accuracy & data integrity
  • Strong project management & organization skills
  • Experience in high growth, fast-paced company a plus
  • Familiarity with UltiPro, Workday desired

Location

Bay Area preferred (hybrid)

The targeted US salary range for roles at this operating level is $70,000 to $122,000. This range represents base salary and does not reflect equity, benefits or variable pay where applicable. Actual base salaries are based on several factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, experience, certifications and specific work location.
