What You Will Be Doing

The Senior Embedded Software Engineering Program Management (SW EPM) will drive delivery for embedded software product initiatives, both new products and sustaining products. They will lead release and resource planning, manage major events, and ensure that features are successfully delivered to market on schedule while meeting business and quality metrics.

In this role you will support the software engineering teams. You will also interface with the product management and hardware management teams in the product development process.

You are a hands-on, technical leader with a strong program management background, data-driven, strategic approach to problem-solving. You collaborate with Product and Engineering organizations to successfully delivering software products to market. You have proven your ability to establish credibility at the executive level and experience gaining consensus and approval for product planning efforts across multiple functional leaders.

You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing strategic program and project management excellence for a product, ensuring the successful “end-to-end” software delivery for the embedded projects.

You will be responsible for implementing processes, measurements, standards and KPI for project success (Eg: Schedule, Cost, Quality etc) to help scale and bring products to market.

Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Lead the x-functional team to drive planning / execution of engineering activities: which include roadmap, engineering requirements, project resourcing, scheduling, deliverables, demos, testing, and validation.
  • Responsible for daily project management through the life cycle of development, test, validation/Beta, and production release.
  • Coordinate the Product and Engineering teams in the critical transition from Product Requirements Document to Engineering Response Document
  • Coordinate with the platform/embedded, cloud, and mobile software engineering teams by interfacing with the product management and business applications teams in the product development process.
  • Facilitate the Agile/scrum process for development activities.
  • Facilitate Change management, scope creep and prioritization in project execution
  • Communicate regular project status, manage risk, and escalate to leadership as required.
  • Facilitate concept and execute commit gates within development lifecycle process. Maintain master project Confluence tying project together
  • Track and manage resource utilization across the various projects and programs
  • Enabler to removing obstacles by engaging the cross functional team
  • Enforce product development processes throughout the project cycle – scrums and agile ceremony meetings, demos, and releases.
  • Facilitate cross-functional coordination with the hardware/system engineering program managers who support hardware, mechanical, electrical engineering, and operations teams to ensure product deliverables are met on-time and meet requirements.
  • Support the Product Management team:  engage in roadmap and planning activities and document the POR (plan of record) for execution and release.  Align everyone to the roadmap: articulating and maintaining the roadmap (feature level).
  • Partner with engineering management to facilitate all aspects of projects: prioritize, schedule, track, proactively manage and communicate status of projects; manage dependencies and blockers.
  • Coordinate the projects and their interdependencies between new and sustaining projects including those in production and released to the field.
  • This role will lead efforts across teams representing multiple layers of the software stack as well as other cross-functional partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical engineering, or related or equivalent work experience
  • 12+ years of experience managing complex technology projects with aggressive schedules
  • Proficient at creating and tracking complex development schedules, managing issues and tracking bugs using modern tools such as Confluence and Jira.
  • Possess an ability to take large, complex projects and break them down into manageable pieces, develop functional specifications, then deliver them in a timely manner
  • Experience managing the introduction of new technologies with a solid understanding of product development lifecycles
  • Solid understanding of business planning processes and key business metrics to be achieved
  • Excellent leadership skills to work seamlessly with various stakeholders (Engineering, Product Management, IT Business Applications, Customer Support,)
  • Strong experience as a project manager of multiple large and complex projects, having a broad knowledge of project and program management methodologies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (ability to influence without authority)

Results focused – Ability to organize and manage multiple, and at times competing priorities

Fluency in Agile/Scrum iterative project methods and processes, with some experience in Waterfall methodologies.  Scrum/Agile certifications a plus. (e.g., Scrum Master or PMP)

Fluency with Agile project and documentation management tools, expertise in Confluence and JIRA tools strongly preferred

Strong written and verbal communication is key as you drive projects forward, prioritize work, facilitate the removal of obstacles, and escalate risks

Prior experience as a development engineer is a prefered
