Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Electrical Design Engineer provides technical analysis and engineering support for the assessment and development of BESS generation projects. Interface, collaborate, and negotiate with Client and Transmission System Operator (TSO) or NGCP representatives, electricity suppliers and other electrical agencies during the interconnection approval process to ensure complete system compliance.

He/she will serve as the Subject Matter Expert on Grid Integration and Interconnection issues, consulting internally and with customers on policy development, planning and implementation. Responsible for working with the organizations to develop and drive design standardization with respect to the Power Systems. He/she will also consult as an industry expert with internal and external customers, advice on Power Systems policy development, planning and implementation.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain standard equipment specifications for AC Power System Components – HV substations, MV switchgears, MV & HV transformers, MV conductors, LV conductors.

Develop and maintain standardized protection and control scheme methodology for MV collection system and HV utility network coordination.

Responsible for the development, implementation and modeling of a system level positive sequence load flow model (PSLF, PSSE) for utility scale grid interactive inverter systems.

Prepare interconnection applications, interconnection impact assessment studies, and other studies, not necessarily of electrical nature; needed to satisfy compliance with codes and regulatory requirements including NGCP, ERC and DOE requirements.

Work closely with the Business Development team to ensure they are meeting/delivering the most complete and cost effective proposals for potential future projects.

Develop and maintain design standards, templates and tools for the Power System.

Works directly with external consultants to provide engineering details and design to support large generation interconnection documentation and budgeting.

Collaborate daily with other Design Engineers, internal and external customer(s) to determine specific project needs and requirements and to counsel within the expertise area; including group lead, engineering oversight, task management, and implementing lessons learned found during project execution.

Requirements

Power Systems Design Engineering with 3+ years of experience for MV/HV/LV system.

In-depth knowledge and project design experience with Power System Protection.

Working experience with utility grid operation, load flow studies, transmission planning and knowledge of feasibility, system impact and facility studies.

Discrete working knowledge of applicable local (PEC) and international codes (NEC, IEC).

Discrete working knowledge of NGCP, ERC, DOE standards and orders as they apply to renewable generation design and compliance.

Strong technical writing skills for the development of design standards and specifications.

Ability to collaborate as a team and act as a team leader in a group of cross functional engineers.

BSEE, REE/PEE or related discipline preferred.

Knowledge of electrical design, materials and methods installation, especially in power generation.
