Overview 

The Sr. Director will have a leadership role within the project development team. Leading from the front to help the team achieve its goals around solar and storage project development, the successful candidate will have deep knowledge of this market; proven project development and transaction experience; strong communication skills and financial acumen; and an ability to drive complex deals to closure. This role is focused on work in the SPP and PJM markets.  

The Director will have a number of direct reports and is expected to be hands-on with the development work. CCR is a culturally flat organization where senior and junior team members work collaboratively throughout the project lifecycle. The Development organization leads asset development from early (site acquisition) to late (NTP) stages and is responsible, along with the Origination team, for securing project revenue. The Development team also must work arm in arm to engage with EPC contractors, ensure a clear handoff to the EPCM team, and then support the continued construction and financing of the project. 

In addition to individual project work, the successful candidate will have experience driving policy and regulation and will work hand in hand with the Policy and Strategy team to execute policy priorities at the market-level and legislative work. The successful candidate with thrive in a collaborative culture and will additionally interface with M&A and Structured Finance to actualize value in and out of the pipeline. We are looking for a team member able to hit the ground running, who is excited by a fast pace and is eager to make progress CCR’s corporate goals. 

Given the changing dynamic of the energy landscape, the candidate must be able to be agile and be able to interact with different types of generation resources, including firm generation, understand load interconnection processes, and interact and engage with datacenters. 

Responsibilities 

  • Assist in the development of the market strategy and then drive and execute towards the team goals 
  • Work closely with Origination, Policy, Engineering and Structured Finance teams to vet and enact said strategies and tactics. 
  • Drive forward project development on energy projects throughout the full lifecycle 
  • Manage team member(s) and support staff while providing leadership and mentorship in negotiation, analysis, risk assessment and business development. 
  • Manage and collaborate with internal and external resources in the process of structuring, negotiating, and closing project transactions including land agreements, interconnection, tax agreements, PPAs, etc. 
  • Originate, lead and/or manage due diligence on projects, sites, and counterparties for acquisition projects. 
  • In collaboration with the Government Affairs and Community Engagement team, drive successful outcomes at the permitting level and create long-lasting project and corporate brand in the community 
  • Analyze and interpret regulations, power economics, input prices and other data by market and provide input to the company’s business plan and development strategy. 
  • Support EPC contracting, late-stage project sequencing, and support EPCM team in construction of the project 

Education & Experience Required 

  • 10+ years of experience in energy project development, and 4+ years developing in liquid markets 
  • Demonstrated success in developing energy across the project lifecycle, including experience in commercializing late-stage assets and different types of energy generation 
  • 4-year degree required. MBA or other relevant master’s degree valued. 
  • Ability to synthesize complex risks and opportunities into succinct and actionable directions. 
  • Deep understanding of the policy, regulatory and competitive dynamics that drive revenue and market access. 
  • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative, attention to detail and accountability. Ability to multi-task and work in a deadline driven environment. 
  • Strong interest in joining a dynamic, value-building environment and being part of a high-performing and collaborative team.

Location: Strong preference for candidates located in or willing to relocate to a CCE offices in New York City, Chicago, or Asheville with a hybrid schedule of 3 days in office; also open to remote candidates. 

Compensation: The salary range for the position is $200-235k plus bonus and benefits. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location.
