We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Octopus Energy for Business team (OEB).
OEB are the business energy champions. Success for OEB comes down to our ability to look after our customers, whilst furthering the transition to Net Zero. To achieve this we must deliver market leading green products, outstanding customer service and competitive pricing. Businesses have a fundamental role to play in grid decarbonisation, which OEB can support them to unlock.
Powering over 110,000 customers with green electricity, OEB is rapidly scaling. Growth to date is based on disruption and innovation. Testing and rolling out smart products, customer propositions and initiatives. Our most recent phase of growth is looking at mid-market businesses. It’s time to disrupt and innovate in this space in the same way OEB has for small businesses.
OEB are a small, determined team. Team members have freedom and accountability over their areas. To maintain our advantage, innovation and customer centricity are key. This role will be responsible for the end-to-end ownership of rapidly developing, launching and owning innovation trials that seek to drive tangible benefits to customers.
We are seeking someone who is happy to work in the London office 2-3 days a week.

What you'll need...
5+ years of professional experience in backend web application developmentHands-on experience with Python/Django or equivalent web frameworksStrong systems design abilities, including microservices architectureExperience designing and operating RDBMS (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL)Experience with secure, reliable, large-scale/ high-transaction systemsExperience developing and operating systems in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure)A self-sufficient person with a high level of initiative, able to work autonomously in a fast-changing environmentA strong team player who collaborates across teams and departments, mentoring and coaching more junior developersSomeone excited to solve social challenges through technologyInterest in environmental issues and the energy industryWe're looking for someone with a general interest in technology and problem-solving; someone diligent and thoughtful.
