Form Energy is a team of passionate people tackling the challenge of climate change through transformationally low cost energy storage.  Our team members are active learners who enjoy working on tough technology problems in massive markets and embody our values of humanity, excellence and creativity. The company is backed by a diverse set of committed investors and we have raised over $360M to date.

Role Description
The Software Engineering team at Form builds innovative internal tools that touch every part of Form’s product and company. There are four subteams: Tech Data accelerates hardware technology development via data engineering for battery and IoT data; Formware accelerates business development via grid modeling tools; Opsware accelerates company operations via apps for manufacturing and R&D; and Platform owns the data warehouse and compute infrastructure that underlie everything else. We’re a Python/React/AWS shop and use a modern data stack including Snowflake, dbt, and Dagster.

As a member of the Software Platform team, this role will play a critical part in developing and maintaining Form Energy’s central data store, a Snowflake data warehouse, which will be used across the organization to inform decision-making in R&D, business development, finance, manufacturing, supply chain, facilities, fleet management, and more. This role requires strong skills in SQL and version control, ideally together in an environment like dbt.

Form Energy, where possible, embraces a digital work environment and supports onsite, hybrid, and remote types of work with office locations in Somerville, MA (Greater Boston), Berkeley, CA (San Francisco Bay Area), and Eighty Four, PA (Greater Pittsburgh). #LI-DNI

What You'll Do:

  • Be the analytics engineering lead at Form. This means managing the transformation layer—the T in ELT—of our data stack and serving as an internal expert and advocate for all things data warehouse and SQL
  • Collaborate with other members of the Software team to set a high standard for data modeling in our warehouse, including developing a style guide and requirements for testing and documentation
  • Build, review, and optimize data transformations. We have a growing number of contributors to our transformation codebase and you will work closely with them to ensure data models conform to the high standards we set
  • Work closely with other Software teams to ensure that data are consistent across sources upstream and the data warehouse. This will be in an environment where schema migrations are frequent for existing data sources and new sources are regularly introduced
  • Provide support to analysts and data scientists that may access our data warehouse using python, a statistical package, or BI tool
  • Help to build a strong data culture at Form
  • Act as a collaborative member of a distributed software engineering team
  • What You'll Bring:

  • Passion for our mission, sustainability, and fighting climate change
  • Minimum 5+ years of professional experience as an analytics engineer, data engineer,  data scientist, or other data professional
  • Fluency in SQL and extensive experience working with cloud data warehouses like Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift
  • Solid understanding of git and version control principles
  • Experience using dbt, python, and Jinja desired but not required
  • Curiosity, creativity, and tenacity when it comes to problem solving
  • Background in renewable energy, energy storage, utilities, or a strong desire to learn
