About the company:
Our Mission
At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The VX4, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take-off and landing), ‘zero emissions’ aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky.
We won’t realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed, instead, we want to ‘redefine’ aerospace best practices.
We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals of having the VX4 in service by 2030
What to Expect
As an Aerodynamic Surfacer you’ll be joining our multidisciplinary team focussing on delivering high-performance aerodynamic designs. You will bring strong technical expertise, a passion for innovation and hands-on experience in surface modelling within aerodynamic development projects.
What You'll Do
Develop advanced and precise CAD surfaces using 3DX CATIA for aerodynamic applications, ensuring high-quality standards for surface continuity and smoothness.
Work closely with aerodynamicists, designers, and simulation engineers to support the iterative design process, ensuring aerodynamic efficiency and performance.
Utilize geometric parameterisation and scripting tools to facilitate design optimisation and automate repetitive tasks in the geometry creation process.
Assist in the automation of CFD pre-processing steps, ensuring efficient and accurate model setup for computational fluid dynamics analysis.
Ensure that surface models are fully compatible with CFD meshing requirements, maintaining integrity and precision for simulations.
Take ownership of the baseline model configuration, ensuring it is consistently up-to-date. Manage configuration control and Digital Mock-Up (DMU) Master Shapes to guarantee the integrity and consistency of design data.
What You’ll Bring
Minimum 3 years of experience in aerodynamic surface development.
Proficient in 3DX CATIA for complex surface modelling.
Solid understanding of aerodynamic design processes.
Strong skills in Python programming, especially for automation tasks.
Good grasp of mathematical geometric formulations, such as NURBS and geometric parameterisation.
Experience in geometry preparation for CFD, including mesh-aware modelling.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
