About This Role

We are looking for an energetic Senior Accountant who wants to help us to fulfill our mission of working with nature to reduce food waste and create abundance for all.  In this role you will be responsible for supporting the timely and accurate delivery of monthly financial statements for a growing global company.  

The Senior Accountant's responsibilities include preparing financial reports, performing account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, assisting with audit preparations, and performing other accounting duties as assigned.

A successful candidate will have a solid working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial analysis skills, strong Excel skills, be detail-oriented and organized and able to work both collaboratively and independently. 

This position is ideally based in Santa Barbara, CA, with the possibility to work remotely. This position will report to the Accounting Manager. 

What You'll Do 

  • Maintains financial records for corporate and subsidiary companies by analyzing balance sheets and general ledger accounts.
  • Reconciles general and subsidiary accounts by gathering and balancing information.
  • Prepare month-end general ledger journal entries.
  • Track fixed assets by type and location and record related monthly depreciation.
  • Calculate monthly inventory cost adjustments.
  • Perform periodic inventory counts and reconciliations.
  • Prepare audit schedules for external auditors.
  • Assist with international entities as they come online.
  • Maintains accounting controls by following policies and procedures; complying with statutory financial, legal and tax requirements.
  • Review ad-hoc filings prepared by local accounting & tax partners.
  • Participate in the development and documentation of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Identify areas for workflow process improvements, provide recommendations and execute on the changes.
  • Play an active role in system enhancements and upgrades.
  • Perform other duties and ad-hoc projects as assigned.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications.

What You Bring

An equivalent combination of relevant education and applicable job experience may be considered. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or other related field
  • 5-7 years of general ledger accounting experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP
  • Strong work ethic with adaptability and flexibility
  • Able to prioritize concurrent deadlines
  • Thorough and detail-oriented
  • Self-starter and problem solver
  • Effective communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills
  • Advanced excel experience required 

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or Chartered Accountant preferred
  • Oracle experience preferred 
  • Floqast experience preferred
  • Knowledge of IFRS a plus
  • International work experience (LATAM/EMEA)
