Perfect Day India (PDI) is looking to fill a team leader position to strengthen capabilities in Fermentation and Downstream processing, at our newly built R&D labs (Perfect Day Park) in Bangalore. The R&D programs at PDI are focused on developing biotechnology-based processes for producing proteins via microbial fermentation. This entails engineering relevant microbial strains and developing fermentation and downstream processes for maximizing strain productivities and yields of the purified product.

Responsibilities

Manage and further build a fermentation downstream process development team (6-8 scientists) via creating and implementing a group vision, managing people and their performances, building state of the art competencies in fermentation downstream processing

Develop new concepts and formats for purifying recombinant proteins in a cost-effective manner, achieving target purity, yields and cost. Providing DSP support for various scales (from 2-L fermenters to pilot/commercial scale)

Develop costing models and optimization strategies

Conduct hands-on work to support individual project tasks while providing technical guidance and organizational support to the team

Collaborate with the global Fermentation Downstream processing teams across Berkeley, Bangalore, and other Perfect Day locations, to help implement downstream processing strategies, and customize solutions based on the protein of interest

Manage authoring and revision of SOPs related to DSPD activities

Contribute to technology transfer and process cross validation with CMOs/CROs

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering/ Biotechnology/Bioprocessing/Fermentation technology/Dairy Technology/Food processing, and 6-8 years of relevant experience in fermentation / downstream processing or MSc/MTech. in similar fields with 12-14 years of relevant experience (as described above)

A talented individual with strong leadership skills who can effectively combining different technical solutions with business strategies, and a "customer-first" attitude to deliver customized solutions for R&D

Experience in managing projects and work with cross-functional teams comprised of internal and/or external contacts.

Proven hands-on experience in recombinant protein purification from early process definition to late-stage process characterization study

Experience in working with CMOs and CROs

· Strong collaboration and influencing skills, with a customer focus, to enable productive discussions with R&D scientists to co-create questions, ideas, hypotheses for testing

Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic corporate environment with changing priorities, and flexibility to support multiple DSPD projects simultaneously.

Experience in managing technical teams and external partners

Ability to identify root causes of complex problems and develop creative solutions to solve them.
