Your role and your team:

Are you looking to apply your Reliability Engineering knowledge and expertise to the design of a cutting-edge product?

As a Reliability Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the design teams by performing system reliability activities.

You will report directly to the Manager of Safety & Reliability and work closely with all our Engineering Teams. Your contribution will be key for the development of Lilium’s ground-breaking aircraft.

Working within a complex stakeholder landscape and often with immature, developing and changing requirements, you will be expected to guide our internal departments to scope, analyse and deliver safe & reliable solutions.

Interested candidates should possess an engineering or physical science degree, and/or a substantial period in industry. It goes without saying you will have a passion for the discipline of Safety & Reliability Engineering and a desire to share your passion with the team.

You will be assisting with the functional activities (such as process improvement) as well as becoming a key member of a large scale and complex project. You will be responsible for supporting the design teams by performing system reliability activities.

The successful applicant will be become a key part of the System Engineering team and you will undertake reliability engineering tasks of the Lilium Jet´s design to comply with international airworthiness and certification regulations. You will be empowered within the project / functional teams to make decisions on reliability topics and be part of a world class team.

Your Day to Day:

  • Establish reliability targets and budget breakdown for dedicated systems or equipment in aircraft design,
  • Define qualitative and quantitative reliability requirements for both Lilium internal use and supplier contracts,
  • Define operational environment & user case to be used for reliability analyses.
  • Provide guidance to teams regarding reliability principles.
  • Perform reliability analyses such as reliability prediction/allocation/growth, reliability block diagrams, fault tree analysis, FMECA, failure reporting analysis and corrective action systems (FRACAS) (including root cause analysis and corrective analysis development),
  • Use advance statistical, probabilistic and forecasting methods to best quantify reliability of aircraft’s system/subsystem
  • Identify reliability critical items and develop action plans for them,
  • Communicate reliability analysis results, risks and recommendations.
  • Work with test and design teams to develop test plan and test methods for reliability testing,
  • Compiling Reliability documentation in support of the Lilium Jet design and certification activities.
  • Monitor system reliability performance metrics to ensure that reliability activities are being adequately executed.
  • Contribute to aircraft level reliability activities if required.
  • Manage the reliability interface with suppliers.
  • Prepare and present content for review gate meetings
  • Perform the tasks required by Aircraft Reliability Program Plan.

Your Profile:

  • BSc/MSc in one of the STEM fields
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in position
  • Familiarity with reliability program standards system design, development, and manufacturing, e.g. MIL-STD 217; MIL-STD-785 ; Bellcore/Telcordia; MIL-HDBK-217Plus; MIL-HDBK-338 or equivalent other civil standards
  • Knowledge of SAE ARP4761
  • Knowledge of SC VTOL is desirable
  • Experience with equipment level reliability prediction analyses and reliability improvements
  • Experience on conducting Reliability Growth Programs and Reliability Testing
  • Experience on Physics-of-failure simulation is desirable
  • Experience on hardware design processes is desirable
  • Experience on Reliability software tools such as Isograph, Windchill etc.
  • Experience with undertaking rotorcraft/fixed wing air vehicle reliability programs at equipment level
  • Basic knowledge of safety, availability, testability, and maintainability
  • Target-oriented with analytic problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills and conflict resolution skills
  • Proficient in the English language, German or other European languages would also be beneficial.
