The Research & Development Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer will support the Research & Development team for EHS hazards and mitigations for their project portfolio. They will lead and further develop key safety programs as required by the R&D team’s needs for both SPARC and ARC focus. This scope of work will include building out facilities, equipment selection, and creating administrative controls for each R&D project. The individual will author and administer training, ensure compliance with regulations at all levels, conduct safety investigations, and work with our team to develop safety protocols and plans.

This team member will:
Perform safety design reviews on test experiment equipment, processes, and procedures to identify potential hazards using tools such as HAZOP, FMEA, and Job Hazard AnalysisDevelop risk mitigation plans through safety hierarchy of controls with R&D EngineersAuthor and administer safety trainings Work with R&D personnel to develop safety protocols and standard operating proceduresSupport safety efforts across scope of work as necessaryThe ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements:
Bachelor's degree in an environmental, health, safety discipline or mechanical engineering, chemical engineering 5+ years’ experience in Health and Safety rolesExperience with electrical, mechanical, assembliesSafety Design Review experience such as HAZOP, FMEA, Job Hazard AnalysisHigh self-motivation and drive to execute quickly with excellent troubleshooting/ problem-solving skillsAbility to prioritize and manage concurrent projects simultaneouslyExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAdditional experience and/or qualifications:
Specific Experience with cryogenics, hazardous chemicals, magnetsDevelopment of Chemical Exposure Control PlansAbility to lift 50 lbs infrequentlyPerform activities such as stooping, climbing, typing, standing, sitting for extended periods of timeDedication to safety to mitigate hazards that may include heat, cold, fumes, noise, strong magnets, and potential for exposure based on evaluating or mitigating hazardsMay include periodic travel to Milpitas, CA facilityPotential for calls during off-shifts in case of adverse events
