Who You Are
As a Quality Scientist you are a creative, collaborative, and hands-on analytical scientist with experience in running, maintaining and troubleshooting analytical instruments. You are knowledgeable in analytical chemistry, process control, method qualification and validation, instrument calibration and maintenance and related topics. You pride yourself on being resourceful and independent, able to effectively manage multiple projects and deliver results on time in a fast-paced environment with constantly evolving information.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Serve as technical subject matter expert, focusing on complex tests (eg, ICP-MS)
- Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to technicians
- Support future method transfer from Alameda lab
- Train technicians on special techniques (eg, method validation)
- Administer site assay control monitoring program
- Lead special studies and improvement projects
- Execute advanced routine testing, as needed
- Assist QC Lab Manager with responsibilities, as needed
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- BS or Masters’ Degree in Chemistry or related field, demonstrating significant course work in analytical chemistry
- 3-5 years of experience required
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and 17025 standards preferred
- Broad experience with analytical instrumentation - knowledgeable about the operating principles and primary applications of a variety of analytical instruments like BET, TGA, LPSA, SEM, XRD, ICP, XRF, Pycnometry, etc.
- Experience in maintaining, calibrating and troubleshooting analytical instruments
- Understanding of statistics and statistical process control - conversant in concepts like mean, standard deviation, variance, etc.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes
- Move items up to 25 lbs with the assistance of lift equipment and carts
- Move long distances (such as from building to building) and be stationary for extended periods of time
- Reach low shelves or items on the floor
- Precise and repetitive handling of a range of material quantities
- Operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a laptop, copier/printer, etc in a fixed location
The starting base pay for this role is between $103,000 and $130,000 at the time of posting. The actual base pay depends on many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. Base pay is only one part of Sila’s competitive Total Rewards package that can include benefits, perks, equity, and bonuses. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
