Internship Term: Summer 2023

This is an 8 month Co-op. Full-time employment is required.

  • Co-op B: May-December (Summer/Fall)

Rivian internships are experiences optimized for student candidates. To be eligible, you must be an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited program during the internship term with an expected graduation date between Fall 2023 through Fall 2025.

Rivian’s cell design and manufacturing team is pursuing avery rare endeavor of bringing to market a domestically produced product typically supplied by established overseas vendors in record speed. Understanding and establishing the boundaries and rules of cell manufacturing and providing insight as the “voice of the customer” allows all teams to streamline priorities and actions, thus allowing the organization to realize this mission.

Responsibilities

  • Devise and validate test protocols of electrode or assembly sub-products to determine quality specifications in cross functional settings
  • Participate in design validation sample making readiness including but not limited to:
    • Cell dissection and failure analysis of sample making start up issues
    • Characterization metrology and equipment set up
    • Standard operation procedure creation and documentation
  • Participate in DOE's to determine quality specifications for a cell sub-product
  • Bring online a characterization tool or inspection method
  • Draft SOPs and appropriate documentation

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a 4 year program in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, physics, chemistry, or a related field. MS/PhD preferred
  • Previous cell manufacturing internship or industry experience preferred
  • Foundational understanding Lithium-Ion batteries
  • MatLab/Python experience is a plus
  • Hands-on laboratory experience including coin or (preferably) pouch cell building, electrochemical
    evaluation, materials characterization, and data analytics
  • Strong motivation and enthusiasm to be at the forefront of next-generation battery development
  • A learning mindset and collaborative approach to solving problems

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Colorado Based Applicants: The range of pay for internships is 25.00-51.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on location, and other factors permitted by law.

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
