The Pretreatment & Electrodeposition (PT/ED) Production Jr. Technician is responsible for leading safe, stable, and efficient PT/ED operations within the automotive paint shop. This role ensures consistent body quality, corrosion protection performance, and throughput by managing daily production activities, people, equipment, and process controls. The Team Leader is accountable for QCDSM (Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, Morale) targets, compliance with EHS standards, and adherence to OEM paint process requirements. The position acts as the first-line leader for operators and technicians, driving continuous improvement, problem-solving, and operational discipline across pretreatment and electrodeposition processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead daily PT/ED production activities to achieve planned volume, takt time, and shift targets.
  • Monitor and control key process parameters including Pretreatment stages (degreasing, rinsing, activation, phosphating, passivation). ED bath parameters (solids %, pH, conductivity, temperature). Ultrafiltration, permeate quality, and anolyte control. Ensure strict adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs), control plans, and work instructions. Coordinate line start-up, shutdown, changeovers, and recovery after downtime.
  • Ensure body corrosion protection performance meets OEM standards and internal KPIs. Monitor and address defects such as: Poor phosphate coverage, ED defects, craters, pinholes, low film build Conduct PTED checks and verify inspection results.
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) using structured methodologies (5-Why, Fishbone) and implement corrective actions.
  • Support audits, capability studies, and customer quality requirements.
  • Enforce compliance with all safety rules, chemical handling standards, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and safe operation of conveyors, tanks, rectifiers, and lifting tools.
  • Lead daily safety talks (Toolbox Talks) and incident prevention activities.
  • Ensure environmental compliance related to wastewater treatment, chemical storage, spill prevention, and emissions.
  • Supervise, coach, and motivate operators and technicians on the PT/ED line.
  • Conduct shift handovers, work allocation, and manpower balancing.
  • Enforce compliance with all safety rules, chemical handling standards, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and safe operation of conveyors, tanks, rectifiers, and lifting tools.
  • Lead daily safety talks (Toolbox Talks) and incident prevention activities. 
  • Ensure environmental compliance related to wastewater treatment, chemical storage, spill prevention, and emissions.
  •  Coordinate with maintenance teams for preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Support implementation of Lean Manufacturing, TPM, and Kaizen activities.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of automotive pretreatment and cathodic electrodeposition processes. 
  • Understanding of corrosion protection principles and coating thickness control 
  •  Ability to interpret control charts and quality reports.
  • Familiarity with chemical dosing systems, rectifiers, UF systems, and wastewater treatment basics.
  • Ability to read and follow technical manuals, SOPs, and process specifications
  • Strong shop-floor leadership and team management skills
  • Effective communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Decision-making capability in high-pressure production environments
  • Basic computer skills (ERP, production reporting, MS Office) 
  • Continuous improvement mindset and results-driven approach.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Diploma degree or equivalent technical qualification.
  • Minimum 2–3 years in PT/ED processes.
  • Prior experience in a supervisory or team leader role preferred.
  • Knowledge of OEM automotive quality standards and EHS requirements.
  • Willingness to work in shifts and support production according to plant schedules.
