Upward Farms designs and operates complete ecosystems of plants and fish in vertical farms, supplying these organic products to local grocers. We are currently expanding, opening a new cutting edge, fully automated facility in Brooklyn. More and larger farms are in the works. As a Project Manager, General Engineering you will tackle projects of varying sizes and complexities. You will partner with technical and operational leaders to oversee and execute key engineering processes, programs, and tools to continue scaling our dedicated, high performing team. You will join us in shaping the vision, strategy, and priorities of the Engineering team as you coordinate critical operational and technical projects.

The Project Manager, General Engineering will report to the General Engineering Manager, and work closely with the Engineering Director and other leaders from across the company.

Success

Your objective is to develop and execute projects in service of the Engineering team’s cross-functional goals and objectives. You will ensure that projects meet specified timelines and deliver expected results. Of particular importance to Upward Farms will be your ability to leverage project management tools, methodologies and techniques to deliver complex policies, processes, systems and other initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies opportunities for policy, process and system improvements across Upward Farms engineering team with a view to achieving standardization, harmonization and optimization.
  • Works cross-functionally to gather requirements, establish scope, define timelines, and identify deliverables for inter-team projects.
  • Utilizes a range of project management tools, methodologies and techniques to deliver complex initiatives.
  • Collaborates with and manages both internal and external project stakeholders.
  • Coaches Upward Farms colleagues on effective project management and empowers project partners to perform their best work.
  • Owns end-to-end and day-to-day management of projects including issue management, change management, task tracking, documentation and reporting.
  • Ensures that project plans are adhered to or modified to reflect changes in approach.
  • Leverages the latest digital project management tools and technologies to support development of scalable, industry-leading business operations solutions.
  • Establishes and works within project budgets, seeking approvals when necessary.
  • Communicates and reports regularly on project status.
  • Proactively identifies and mitigates risks, issues, and discrepancies, escalating where necessary. Works to resolve obstacles to success and ensure that projects are delivered in full.
  • Drives projects based on defined priorities, ensuring that deliverables, timelines and other requirements are met. Owns decisions around management of project activities.
  • Works autonomously on large and small scale projects that have a direct impact on colleagues and the success of Upward Farms.
Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in an engineering or operations project management role at a high-growth and rapidly changing and technology-focused organization.
  • Experience in successfully managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Deep understanding of project management tools, methodologies and techniques. Experience using waterfall, agile and hybrid approaches to project management.
  • Clear and concise oral and written communication that is supportive of stakeholders management and compelling for decision makers.
  • Proven track record implementing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Proficient in all aspects of document management from project plans to meeting agendas and requests for proposals (RFPs).
  • Project management certification or an advanced degree in relevant topics preferred
  • Roadmap-oriented and strategy minded.
  • Experience managing large project budgets.
  • Mastery of project management platforms (e.g. Wrike) and fluency with modern workplace technology, including Slack, Zoom, G-suite, etc.
  • A fierce love for sustainable, healthy food.
