The Principal Systems Engineer will lead and be responsible for the overall system design and integration for the next generation of Fluence core products targeted at utilities and transmission system operators around the world. Typical tasks and initiatives performed by the Systems Engineering team include:
       Develop and maintain system level hardware and software requirements for the grid forming applications of Fluence energy storage product.
       Deep understanding of technical challenges and possess requisite knowledge to identify potential pathways in integration of grid forming systems
       Familiarity with grid forming control strategies like droop controller and virtual synchronous machines and its ancillary applications such as synthetic inertia, controlled fault current contribution, system strength remediation and grid booster application
       Stay current with evolving grid forming capabilities across regions like Australia, UK, Germany, USA to continuously improve requirements to develop versatile systems
       Develop and implement test plans for system validation testing.
       Provide technical leadership in collaborative process with Product Managers to determine allowable product configurations and future product architecture.
       Maintain product technical specifications and capabilities documents and coordinate with Sales Engineering team to ensure product being sold matches tested technical metrics.
       Plus: Demonstrated experience in deploying systems with grid forming inverters in off-grid installation or a microgrid and black start support.

The Principal Systems Engineer will:
       Mentor team members and supervise work processes to ensure development of high-quality deliverables across a wide scope of commitments.
       Champion the Fluence Responsible value: ensure the Fluence designs are high quality, high reliability products that include appropriate engineered safety features.
       Develop new tools, implement processes, provide feedback, and work with other stakeholders to ensure continuous improvement of the technology/engineering/ delivery value stream.
       Support, lead, and facilitate internal and external Root Cause Analysis, Lessons Learned, and Management of Change Activities. This work will be done in conformance with an internal quality program certified to ISO 9001 with an emphasis on continuous improvement.
       Represent Fluence in-person and through written material with customers and representatives of key supply chain or service partners.

       Bachelors or Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering or Systems Engineering.
       10+ years of professional work experience as a design engineer, systems engineer, or project engineer in the electric power industry.
       Leadership & supervisory experience in electric power industry (Storage, Solar, Wind, Hydro, Coal, Gas).
       Ability to work in a manner consistent with the Fluence values of Leading, Agile, Responsible, and Fun.
       Proven track record of employing indirect leadership to gain alignment from stakeholders across an organization.
       Proven success on challenging projects where you made key contributions while demonstrating ownership, creativity, and initiative.
       Hands on testing or field experience on inverters or energy storage systems is desired but not necessary
       Know how of inverters, plant controls, battery systems, SCADA systems and balance of plant hardware used in utility scale applications.
       Demonstrated ability and interest in engineering design of utility scale systems; ability to write specifications, design guidelines, and work plans for others to implement.
       Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively to internal and external audiences.
       Successful track record of business process management to include project reporting/management, work execution, procure to pay, change management, workforce development, and planning.
       Desire to learn new skills, business applications and equipment platforms.
       Competence in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Confluence, Jira
       Travel requirements: up to 20%, including international travel.
       Preferred: Knowledge of battery energy storage systems, including knowledge/experience with grid qualification of ancillary services.
       Preferred: Candidates with proven experience in the system design of HVDC or FACTS devices connected to the transmission network would be highly welcomed.
       Plus: Basic know how of communication protocols such as IEC61850,
       Plus: Knowledge of grid codes, standards (IEC / IEEE / UL)
       Plus: Prior knowledge/experience with Fluence product offerings
