Job Description

Lilac is seeking a chemical engineer to lead technical process engineering management of studies and detailed engineering for commercial scale lithium brine extraction projects.   Responsibilities will include managing the technical integration of Lilac’s Direct Lithium Extraction with the overall flowsheet for the processing facility.  The candidate will manage the process engineering aspects related to overall production, yield, energy efficiency, and water efficiency to optimize the performance of the projects.  Stages of project development will include preliminary economic analysis, permitting, prefeasibility, feasibility and detailed engineering. The candidate will support commissioning planning and take learnings from pilot/demonstration/commercial operations to improve subsequent projects.  Periodic travel will be required to the Oakland, California technical and fabrication teams, EPCM engineering contractor location and project sites. This is a full-time position.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Degree in chemical engineering or related field with 8-15+ years of experience in chemical or materials manufacturing
  • Experience with process design, developing chemical equipment specifications, piping design and sizing, equipment commissioning and plant integration.
  • Advanced experience with chemical process modeling and balance of plant integration
  • Defining requirements of test work to confirm suitability and process design
  • Highly organized with sharp attention to numerical detail
  • Excited to work on a small fast-paced startup team with a drive to succeed and grow with the company

Preferred Skills

  • South American experience
  • Spanish language skills
  • Scale up of novel chemical process technologies
  • Commissioning and operations experience
