Your role and your team: 

You will report directly to the Head of Mechanical Engineering. The Mechanical Engineering Team is responsible for designing and developing the structural components of our aircraft across the entire life cycle - from concept through to detailed design, testing and into serial production.

As the Principal Engineer for Aircraft Structure you will be part of an interdisciplinary IPT (Integrated Project Team) responsible for the design of the Aircraft primary and secondary structure along with several additional systems of our Lilium Jet from prototype into serial production.

From mechanical or composite parts design to mechanical systems development you'll play a key role in bringing our innovative aircraft to life.

Your Day to Day:

  • Being part of the leadership team developing the aircraft structure in accordance with all requirements
  • Provide technical leadership and propose innovative solutions to any issues that arise
  • Being part of team defining the system level requirements and giving guidance in breaking them down to the next levels
  • Coordinate the definition and management of interfaces with other systems
  • Being part of the team that defines, coordinates and leads the development of test and certification plans
  • Actively support the development of our engineers
  • Take an active part in the hiring process and help us find excellent engineers  

Your profile:

  • Masters Degree or PhD in Aeronautics, Physics, Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is required
  • 20+ years experience in aircraft structure development is required
  • Well rounded leadership experience required
  • Having followed at least one aircraft program from the early development stage to achieving type certification is beneficial
  • Proven experience with design principles of composite structures is required
  • Extensive experience with working with various suppliers and managing deliverables is required
  • Extensive experience developing and working to system requirements is required
  • Extensive experience with aircraft certification specifications and processes is required
  • Strong motivation to help build and shape our organization, structures and processes is required
  • High level of self-reliance with the ability to work in a team, as well as autonomously is required
  • Target-oriented, driven workstyle with analytic problem solving skills is required
  • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment is required
  • Fluent English language skills are essential, Fluent German or any other language is beneficial
