Start Date – Must be able to start between May 1st-30th and commit to a three-month term at minimum 

Schedule – Flexible, usually Monday through Friday with possible Saturday work during peak season. Four or five eight-hour days.  

Location – Hayward, California  

Compensation - $21/hr 

Pivot Bio is offering full-time paid summer internships supporting plant experiments assessing plant-microbe interactions and plant growth responses. Working with the Plant Team, our summer interns will help maintain experimental plants in the laboratory grow rooms or greenhouses. Interns will also help process samples from field trials during the growing season. In addition, each intern will work to complete an independent project to gain further experience in microbiology, molecular biology, botany, or other related fields.  

Our team thrives on collaboration and communication, and these internships provide an excellent opportunity to work with a close-knit team while gaining hands-on experience in a biotech laboratory.   

Responsibilities:  

In this role, an intern will:  

  • Help maintain plants in the laboratory grow rooms or greenhouse  
  • Assist with in-house assays, lab work and data uploads  
  • Process samples from field trials  
  • Complete an independent project to gain further experience in microbiology, molecular biology, botany, or other related fields  
  • Other duties as assigned 

Physical Demands:  

  • Must be able to occasionally lift 30-50lbs and perform repetitive manual tasks, including standing for extended periods of time    
  • Must be able to operate machinery and/or power tools.    
  • Must be able to work in high temperature and humidity environments (greenhouse)  
  • Must be able to work in noisy environments  

Qualifications and Experience:  

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Crop Sciences, Soil Science and/or related field 
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record  
  • Strong verbal and communication skills 
  • Ability to self-manage time and execute on assigned responsibilities 
  • Must live in assigned territory 
  • Current or recent college student, biology-related major preferred  
  • Excellent observation and documentation skills  
  • Superior communication and teamwork ability to efficiently follow standard operating procedures  
  • Knowledge of microbiology, molecular biology, sterile technique, or agronomy a plus  
  • Must be at least 20 years old for rental car purposes.
